India’s Parliamentarians Get a Boost: Salaries Hiked to Rs 1.24 Lakh Amid Inflation and Rising Living Costs

NEW DELHI: Members of Parliament will now receive a monthly salary of ₹1.24 lakh, an increase from ₹1 lakh, as a result of recent adjustments to account for inflation and rising living costs. These revisions, approved by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, are effective from April 1, 2023.

The decision to raise MPs’ monthly salary is part of a comprehensive review of their emoluments and allowances, based on recommendations by a parliamentary committee. The goal is to mitigate the impact of increasing living expenses and inflation. In addition to the salary hike, MPs’ daily allowance, meant to cover expenses during Parliament sessions and official duties, has been raised from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 per day. Furthermore, the monthly pension for current and former MPs has been increased from ₹25,000 to ₹31,000.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat approved these changes after a thorough review, taking into account the significant time that had passed since the last adjustment. The new structure includes a monthly salary of ₹1.24 lakh, a daily allowance of ₹2,500 per day, and a monthly pension of ₹31,000.

The pension increase will benefit many former MPs who have expressed concerns about stagnant pension amounts amidst rising living costs. While some opposition leaders have welcomed the revisions, citing inflation and increased responsibilities, others have called for greater transparency and public scrutiny of such decisions. These changes come at a time when the government is facing public debates on cost-of-living issues, budget allocations, and broader economic concerns.

Delhi Budget Session Begins with AAP Walkout and BJP’s CAG Report Tabling

NEW DELHI: The commencement of the budget session in the Delhi Assembly was marked by a dramatic walkout by AAP MLAs in protest of Speaker Vijender Gupta’s decision to omit the name of one of its legislators during a discussion under Rule 280, citing repetition of the matter.

Rule 280 grants MLAs the opportunity to address issues concerning their respective constituencies. However, when the speaker overlooked an AAP legislator, the party’s remaining MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Atishi, voiced their dissent before exiting the Assembly.

The speaker characterized the AAP MLAs’ actions as a strategic disruption and cautioned the opposition members against compelling him to take action. He also hinted at the imminent tabling of the CAG report, stating, “In some time, the CAG report is about to be tabled. I think the opposition doesn’t like that.” The BJP-led government is scheduled to present the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) later in the day.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also serves as the finance minister, is slated to introduce the first budget of the BJP government in over 26 years on Tuesday. The BJP reclaimed power in Delhi last month after triumphing over AAP in the Assembly elections.

The five-day budget session commenced with a traditional kheer ceremony in the morning, symbolizing the initiation of crucial discussions and decisions that will shape the future of Delhi.

Delhi | Former Wrestler Turned Gangster Manjeet Dalal, Associated with Neeraj Bawana, Arrested in Singhu Border

NEW DELHI: NEW DELHI: In a significant breakthrough, the Crime Branch (Southern Range) has captured Manjeet Dalal, also known as Mangal, a notorious gangster and former wrestler associated with the Neeraj Bawana-Amit Bhura Gang. The arrest was made in the Singhu Border area following a month-long operation.

Dalal, 31 years old and hailing from Village Mandothi, Bahadurgarh, Haryana, was wanted in numerous cases, including firing on police teams, extortion, robbery, attempted murder, and violations of the Arms Act.

With connections to prominent gangsters like Neeraj Bawana, Naveen Bali, Naveen Bhanja, Amit Bhura, Rahul Kala, and Subeg (also known as Shibbu), Dalal had been evading authorities and was a person of interest in various criminal activities in Delhi. He was wanted in three cases, including an Arms Act violation and a shooting incident at Pishori Restaurant in Lajpat Nagar in 2018.

Starting his career as a wrestler inspired by Sushil Pahalwan, Dalal achieved success at the state and national levels, earning a silver medal in national competitions.

The successful operation to apprehend Dalal was conducted by a dedicated team from the Southern Range of the Crime Branch, led by Inspector Satish Malik. The team, which included Inspector Vinay Kumar, Sub-Inspector Anurag Tyagi, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Dahiya, Assistant Sub-Inspector Narender Malik, Assistant Sub-Inspector Kuldeep Singh, Head Constables Surya, Rajeev Sahrawat, Ajay, Vikram, Constable Prateek, and Woman Constable Renu, closely monitored gang activities in Delhi and the National Capital Region under the supervision of ACP Naresh Solanki.

During a targeted operation against gangsters, it was discovered that Manjeet Dalal had absconded from court appearances and left his hometown of Village Mandothi. He had been declared a proclaimed offender with warrants issued against him by various courts in multiple cases.

After an extensive month-long search, Head Constable Surya received confidential information about Dalal’s whereabouts in Delhi and Haryana near the Singhu Border. The Crime Branch team strategically set up a trap along the National Highway and nearby residential areas, resulting in the successful arrest of Manjeet Dalal, also known as Mangal, at the Singhu Border.

Interrogations revealed that Manjeet Dalal, also known as Mangal, comes from a wealthy family in Village Mandothi, District Jhajjar, Haryana. He was inspired by the renowned wrestler Sushil Pahalwan and began wrestling in his youth, achieving numerous medals at state and national-level tournaments. In 2007, he even won a silver medal at the national level in the 86 kg category.

In 2010, tragedy struck when Manjeet Dalal’s mother passed away from cancer and his father abandoned the family. Shortly after, his brother also relocated to live with relatives in District Rohtak. During this tumultuous time, the infamous gangster Neeraj Bawana made frequent visits to their village in search of local support to eliminate his rival, Kartar of Mandothi Village. Recognizing vulnerability in Manjeet Dalal, Neeraj Bawana enticed him to join his criminal organization.

After the tragic loss of his mother, Manjeet Dalal found himself at a crossroads in his wrestling career, ultimately leading him down a dangerous path with the Neeraj Bawana Gang. This decision thrust him into a world of high-profile crimes, including mafia extortion, attempted murder, Arms Act violations, and carjacking. Despite the relentless efforts of the Delhi Police, Manjeet Dalal managed to evade capture, prompting authorities to offer rewards for his arrest on two separate occasions.

In 2012, Manjeet Dalal was implicated in a series of extortion schemes targeting businessmen, resulting in the filing of three criminal cases against him. Furthermore, his voice samples were found to match those involved in the extortion attempts.

Currently, Manjeet Dalal maintains close contact with Sahil Ritauli, a notorious criminal wanted for a string of violent offenses in Delhi and Haryana. Sahil Ritauli, along with his brother Himanshu Bhau, is evading authorities and believed to be residing abroad.

In 2017, Manjeet Dalal and his accomplices demanded Rs 1 crore from a doctor in Uttar Pradesh on behalf of Amit Bhura. Subsequently, he was arrested in connection with the case, alongside the gang leader and other members of the gang.

The authorities have been notified of his arrest, and the Crime Branch is currently conducting operations against gangsters.
