New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a modern stray dog shelter at Sector-29, Dwarka, which will be developed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Spread across approximately 6,050 square metres, the facility is designed to provide safe shelter, care and rehabilitation for stray dogs with modern infrastructure focused on their welfare and well-being.

The foundation stone was laid in the presence of Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, MLA Kuldeep Gahlot and other dignitaries.

In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said he also visited Delhi’s only cremation centre for small animals and advised the MCD to involve animal welfare organisations, veterinarians, dog lovers and subject experts in the project to help ensure sustainable and compassionate implementation.

According to the post, the project is being developed as a public-private partnership with CSR support from the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, enabling its construction at no cost to the MCD.
