After Viral Waterlogging Video, MCD Says Swaroop Nagar Road Belongs to DSIIDC; Repair Work Underway to Ease Public Movement

Date:

New Delhi, July 9: A day after visuals of schoolchildren wading through a waterlogged street in Swaroop Nagar triggered widespread concern on social media, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has clarified that the affected road falls under the jurisdiction of the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) and not the civic body.

Sharing an update with DelhiNewsLive.com, MCD Commissioner Sanjiv Khirwar said the road where the incident occurred is located in an unauthorised colony and is under the administrative control of DSIIDC.

According to the Commissioner, despite the road not being under MCD’s direct jurisdiction, the Maintenance Wing of the Civil Lines Zone (CLZ) has joined hands with DSIIDC to undertake repair works in the area.

“The road in question is in an unauthorised area and is under the control of DSIIDC. However, the Maintenance Wing of the Zone, along with DSIIDC, has started repair work to facilitate the smooth movement of the public,” the Commissioner said.

The clarification comes after videos showing students crossing a heavily waterlogged road near Green Valley Convent School in Swaroop Nagar went viral, raising concerns over civic infrastructure and monsoon preparedness in the area.

The incident had also sparked criticism on social media, with several users questioning the condition of roads and drainage facilities following heavy rainfall in the National Capital.

Officials said repair work has commenced with the objective of restoring normal movement for residents, commuters and schoolchildren using the affected stretch.

This is a developing story. The report will be updated if DSIIDC or other authorities issue further statements regarding the repair work or long-term measures for the area.
