Delhi Police Arrest Two for ₹1 Crore Extortion Threat to Hari Nagar Trader

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi Police’s West District Special Staff has arrested two men within 12 hours of an alleged extortion threat demanding ₹1 crore from a trader in Hari Nagar using the name of the Neeraj Bawana gang.

Police said the trader received a WhatsApp call at around 9.27 pm from a caller claiming to represent the “Naveen Bali–Neeraj Bawana Gang” and demanding ₹1 crore.

The accused, identified as Mohd. Monish, a former employee of the complainant, and Mohd. Asad, were arrested from Mohan Garden. Police recovered the mobile phone and SIM card allegedly used to make the extortion call. The SIM card had reportedly been purchased from Karol Bagh three days earlier.

According to the investigation, the accused were inspired by gangster videos on YouTube and used the gang’s name to intimidate the trader.

The operation was carried out by Inspector Rajesh Kumar Maurya and his team under the supervision of ACP Vijay Singh, with guidance from Joint Commissioner of Police Jatin Narwal and under the leadership of DCP Hareshwar V. Swami.

Jatin Narwal said there is no place for extortion in Delhi and that the law would act swiftly against such offenders. Inspector Rajesh Kumar Maurya said those attempting to imitate gangsters on YouTube face the reality of the law once arrested.
