1.6 Lakh Girls to Get HPV Vaccine! Delhi Kicks Off Massive Cervical Cancer Drive

Date:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign aimed at preventing cervical cancer among young girls across India. The initiative marks a major step in strengthening women’s preventive healthcare and was inaugurated through video conferencing.

Aligning with the national mission, the Delhi Government formally commenced the campaign in the capital from Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTB Hospital). Officials stated that Delhi is fully committed to implementing the programme with urgency and scale.

Over the next three months, the city aims to vaccinate nearly 1.6 lakh girls through more than 600 government health centres and approximately 4,000 special immunisation sessions. Health authorities described the vaccine as a crucial protective shield against cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women.

In a statement, the Chief Minister emphasized that the HPV vaccine is not merely a medical intervention but a commitment to safeguarding the future of daughters. “When our daughters are healthy, the nation becomes stronger,” she said.

The launch event was attended by Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari, Cabinet Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, MLA Sanjay Goyal and District President Master Vinod, among other dignitaries.

Health officials reiterated that the campaign represents a transformative step toward preventive healthcare for adolescent girls and reflects the government’s broader commitment to strengthening women’s health infrastructure across the national capital.
