Defence Ministry Signs ₹770-Crore BEL Deal for Army Radars to Track Fighters and Small Drones

Date:

New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has signed an approximately ₹770-crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited for Improved Low Level Light Weight Radars for the Indian Army, adding the ability to detect and track fighter-size targets as well as mini and micro drones.

The contract was signed in New Delhi on October 21 in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The LLLR(I) system can also prioritise aerial targets. The ministry said the capability would help the Army counter threats from unmanned aerial systems.

The procurement is intended to strengthen indigenous air-defence platforms and India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, including micro, small and medium enterprises.

The ministry described the agreement as a step towards a resilient, self-reliant and globally competitive defence industry, aligned with the government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
