Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Cracks Down on Illegal Posters and Banners in Capital City

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s Clean Delhi campaign is gaining momentum as civic agencies are actively working to clean streets, roads, and public spaces while also removing illegal posters and banners from government properties, as per an official statement.

Following a recent meeting, the chief minister issued directives for the campaign earlier this week. The initiative includes a comprehensive cleaning of streets, roads, flyovers, and public spaces, with a particular emphasis on removing illegal banners and posters from government-owned properties.

The cleanliness drive is also targeting religious places and temples to ensure a thorough sanitation process. Officials have been tasked with ensuring the visible implementation of these measures so that citizens can directly witness the positive impact of the initiative.

Gupta stressed that cleanliness is a shared responsibility and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to transforming Delhi into a pristine and aesthetically pleasing city.

In conjunction with the Hindu New Year, the government has launched a large-scale cleanliness campaign to ensure that every street, alley, and public space is well-maintained.

Authorities have been instructed to take strict action under the Property Defacement Act against individuals who unlawfully put up posters and hoardings. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been directed to conduct daily field inspections across various wards, with officials required to promptly address any irregularities discovered during these inspections.

The government has guaranteed that all officers and staff will be held accountable for upholding cleanliness standards throughout the city.

Furthermore, various departments have developed a time-bound action plan to remove debris from roadsides and clean drains and sewage lines. Multiple agencies are collaborating to transform Delhi into a cleaner, greener, and more organized city.

Delhi Minister Sirsa Calls for Enhanced Dust Control and Traffic Diversions to Improve Air Quality

NEW DELHI: Delhi’s Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, conducted a comprehensive inspection of key construction sites and traffic congestion points along the Gurugram-Delhi highway, stretching from Dhaula Kuan to Shiv Murti Interchange. The purpose of this inspection was to identify infrastructural deficiencies and address concerns related to pollution, as outlined in a press release issued on Saturday.

During the inspection, Sirsa highlighted the urgent need for enhanced dust control, traffic diversions, and the expansion of greenery to improve air quality along the highway. He was accompanied by officials from various organizations, including the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Public Works Department (PWD), Airports Authority of India, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Delhi Traffic Police.

Sirsa identified key problem areas contributing to traffic congestion and air pollution during the inspection. He pointed out issues in road planning at the Mahipalpur flyover and Rohtak-Chandigarh flyover, which often lead to traffic bottlenecks. Additionally, he assessed dust mitigation efforts at major construction sites like the Shiv Murti Interchange and Airport Underpass.

Expressing concerns over non-compliance with pollution control regulations, Sirsa observed that several construction sites lacked proper covering and regular water sprinkling to control dust. He instructed DPCC officials to take strict action against developers and contractors who do not implement adequate dust control measures.

Sirsa stressed the importance of ensuring smoother traffic flow through proper diversions, enforcing dust control at construction sites, and increasing greenery along the highway to significantly enhance air quality in Delhi.

During a visit to the Shiv Murti Interchange, the minister issued crucial instructions to officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD). The directive was to prepare a comprehensive feasibility report analyzing the expected vehicle traffic and flow through the proposed corridor. This decision was prompted by the severe congestion and frequent traffic jams that plague the area.

Furthermore, the minister assigned NHAI the task of evaluating the need for additional diversions at key bottleneck locations and requested a detailed plan to be presented promptly.

In an effort to combat pollution, NHAI and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi were encouraged to collaborate on the maintenance and expansion of greenery along the highway.

Describing the Gurugram-Delhi highway as the lifeline of the capital, Sirsa emphasized the critical importance of ensuring smooth traffic flow to reduce air pollution as a top priority.

Mysterious Death of Woman Found in Bed Box: Police Probe into Her Separation from Husband and Loss of Contact with Parents

NEW DELHI: Following the discovery of a woman’s body inside a bed box in a Delhi flat, police revealed on Saturday that she had been living separately from her husband and was not in contact with her parents in Ludhiana, Punjab.

The deceased woman, identified as Anju alias Anjali, was in her 30s. Authorities are currently in the process of verifying her identity and gathering more information from her parents.

The grim discovery was made on Friday when the decomposing body of the woman was found wrapped in a blanket inside a bed box in a flat in Shahdara, Delhi. The owner of the residence, Vivekanand Mishra, has been taken into custody for questioning.

A police team has been dispatched to Ludhiana to bring the woman’s parents to Delhi for proper identification. The family is reportedly facing financial difficulties.

The woman, who was married, resided in Delhi separately from her husband, who lives in Bihar. She had lost touch with her parents, according to authorities.

Mishra, aged between 55 to 60 years, is currently being interrogated by the police as they work to piece together the events leading to the woman’s tragic demise.

Upon receiving a PCR call about a foul smell emanating from a DDA Flat in Vivek Vihar, police discovered the locked residence with signs of forced entry near the back door. Inside, they found the decomposed body of a woman wrapped in a blanket inside a bed storage compartment. The victim appeared to be married, as indicated by the red bangles she was wearing.

Authorities estimate that the murder took place two to three days prior to the discovery of the body. The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the motive behind this heinous crime.

Delhi | What Social Issues Affected CM Rekha Gupta to Avoid Sheesh Mahal? Read Here…

NEW DELHI: Nearly 36 days ago, BJP legislator Rekha Gupta was sworn in as the Delhi Chief Minister, and surprisingly, she has been operating her office from the street in front of her home.

During the Times Now Summit 2025 on Friday, Chief Minister Gupta made a surprising revelation in response to a question posed by Anchor Navika. The anchor asked, “Rekha ji, have you also decided not to live in the CM House that was built by Kejriwal ji? Are you sending a message..” Gupta then stated, “I too have decided not to reside in the CM House that was built by Kejriwal.”

She stated, “I am actively engaging in messaging on this (Sheesh Mahal) issue. Despite my efforts, I have yet to find a home. I have set up my office on the street in front of my house, meeting with as many people as possible by placing chairs out in the morning. However, I cannot bring myself to sleep on a chief minister’s luxurious Sheesh Mahal inside a house that cost millions of rupees. Instead, that money could have been used to provide housing for those still sleeping under flyovers. The people in slums deserve that money there are thousands of people without access to proper sanitation facilities…”

“…Allow me to recount a tragic incident in Pitampura. A woman from a slum went to use a public toilet, which was elevated about one and a half feet above the ground with an Indian-style toilet. She slipped and fell into the pit, resulting in her death within 10 minutes. This incident highlights the dire conditions in the capital city of Delhi…”

“…I question whether anyone has considered the development of the vast slum areas in Delhi. Has the AAP government ever shown concern for providing basic amenities like playgrounds, parks, streets, drains, sewers, or waste management for those living in poverty in slums? Delhi should be ashamed of its neglect and should strive to rectify these injustices.”

CM Gupta said: “I would like to bring to your attention the concerning lack of bathing facilities available for women in the various slum clusters. Currently, women and girls residing in these slums are forced to bathe in the open, leaving them vulnerable to unwanted attention. Their bathing options are limited to either outdoor spaces or cramped rooms equipped with only a stove, bed, and a flimsy curtain for privacy. These same spaces are also used for dishwashing and cooking, highlighting the dire living conditions faced by these individuals.”

She further said: “It is disheartening to note that even after so many years of independence, we have failed to provide basic amenities for our less fortunate brothers and sisters. The Congress party, for instance, has established camps such as India Camp, Sanjay Camp and Rajiv Camp, yet these efforts have not significantly improved the lives of the impoverished. Many slum residents have been living in these conditions for decades without any signs of progress or development.”

In a groundbreaking move, I have allocated a budget of 700 crores towards improving the living conditions of slum dwellers. This initiative marks the first step towards ensuring that these individuals are granted the right to equality and access to essential facilities. It is time for us to prioritize the well-being of all members of society, regardless of their socioeconomic status, Gupta added.

The former Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, faced allegations of spending Rs 45 crore on renovating his official residence. This controversy became a focal point for the BJP in their efforts to remove AAP from power.

In a recent budget speech, the current Chief Minister announced plans to transform Sheesh Mahal into a museum. However, the issue still remains regarding finding a suitable official residence for Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. It is crucial for her to have a space where she can meet with taxpayers, delegates, and host other important events. The role of bureaucrats in this process is essential and their actions will be closely monitored.

Delhi High Court Grants 10-Day Interim Bail to Saleem Khan to Arrange Daughter’s College Fees

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail for 10 days to Saleem Khan, who is accused in a UAPA case related to the 2020 communal riots in Delhi. This decision was made to allow Khan to arrange funds for his daughter’s college fees. Khan, along with several others including Sharjeel Imam, Khalid Saifi, and Umar Khalid, has been booked under the anti-terror law UAPA for their alleged involvement in the riots that resulted in 53 deaths and over 700 injuries.

The court, comprising of Justices Navin Chawla and Shalinder Kaur, granted this relief to Khan on the condition that he adheres to the terms set during his previous bail release in December 2024. Khan’s counsel argued that he has never misused his liberty and has always surrendered on time. However, the prosecutor opposed the plea, citing Khan’s involvement in damaging CCTV cameras during the riots.

Despite this, the court took into account a verification report submitted by the prosecution confirming that Khan’s daughter is indeed studying law at Jamia Hamdard University. As a result, Khan has been directed to provide a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with a surety of the same amount.

Delhi Government to Introduce Law for Cow Conservation and Protection

NEW DELHI: The BJP government in Delhi has announced plans to implement a law aimed at conserving and protecting stray cows within the city.

During a recent discussion in the Delhi Assembly, Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood revealed the government’s intention to introduce legislation focused on the welfare of cows. Sood emphasized the need for careful consideration and coordination among various departments to avoid confusion. He also mentioned the exploration of incorporating relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) into the proposed law.

The legislation aims to address concerns related to cow welfare while also ensuring public order by preventing stray cattle from wandering the streets. Sood highlighted the alignment of the proposed law with the traditional values cherished by the people of Delhi.

The new law will include stringent enforcement measures to combat cow exploitation, illegal cattle trade, and neglect by owners. Additionally, the government plans to establish new cow shelters, with allocated funds for their construction and upkeep.

In support of the initiative, BJP MLA Ashok Goel proposed a resolution urging the government to expand existing shelters and improve their maintenance. Goel emphasized the cultural significance of cows as revered figures in Indian society, expressing concerns over the abandonment of cows once they cease to produce milk.

According to official data, the issue of stray cows has resulted in numerous complaints, including traffic disruptions and accidents. Between January 1 and February 19, 2025, the police received 25,393 complaints related to stray cows across the city.

The forthcoming law underscores the government’s commitment to upholding traditional values while addressing practical challenges associated with stray cattle in Delhi.

Several MLAs, including Neelam Pehalwan, Gajender Drall, and Manoj Kumar Shokeen, expressed their concerns regarding the issue. Karnail Singh, the MLA of Shakur Basti, emphasized the need for legal action against owners who abandon their cows on the streets.

In addition, Jangpura MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah highlighted the problem of stray dogs and monkeys, urging the government to address the frequent attacks on children and pedestrians.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta experienced the consequences of stray cattle firsthand when her convoy was delayed for 15 minutes on the Haiderpur flyover due to cows blocking the road. This incident prompted her to instruct officials to ensure proper shelter for stray cattle.

In the recent Delhi budget, Rs 40 crore was allocated for a Model Gaushala (modern cow shelter) in Ghumanhera village. This facility will be equipped with modern amenities to enhance cow protection, improve milk production, and provide veterinary care.

Subsequently, a private member resolution was passed by a voice vote in the Assembly, paving the way for upcoming legislation on the matter.

Delhi | Justice Varma Transferred to Allahabad High Court Amid Cash Discovery Probe

NEW DELHI: Justice Yashwant Varma has been transferred to the Allahabad High Court amidst an investigation into the discovery of a large sum of cash at his residence in New Delhi. The Law Ministry issued a notification announcing his transfer, following a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium. This move is separate from an in-house probe ordered by the Supreme Court after cash was found at Justice Varma’s home following a fire incident on the night of Holi.

Chief Justice of India had directed the Delhi High Court to withdraw judicial work from Justice Varma after the incident. An in-house inquiry was initiated by Delhi High Court Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya, and a proposal to transfer the judge was also put forward. The Supreme Court Collegium formally recommended Justice Varma’s transfer to the Centre after conducting meetings on March 20 and 24, 2025.

A three-member committee was appointed by the Supreme Court to conduct an in-house inquiry into the matter. The committee visited Justice Varma’s residence to begin their investigation. The entire situation has raised questions and concerns, leading to Justice Varma’s transfer back to his parent Allahabad High Court.

Justice Varma has vehemently denied any insinuation and stated that no cash was ever placed at the site, either by him or any of his family members.

Justice Yashwant Varma has been transferred to the Allahabad High Court

Earlier today, the Supreme Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the Delhi Police to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the alleged discovery of burnt wads of cash from his official residence, deeming the petition premature.

A bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan mentioned that an in-house inquiry was currently underway, and once the probe concludes, the Chief Justice of India will have various options available.

Members of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association have been protesting against the Collegium’s recommendation to transfer Justice Varma back to the Allahabad High Court. The protesting lawyers met with Chief Justice Khanna in Delhi on Thursday.

Additionally, the government has officially announced the transfer of Delhi High Court judge Chandra Dhari Singh to the Allahabad High Court. This move follows the Collegium’s recommendation made in November last year.

Furthermore, Justice Arindam Sinha has been reassigned from the Orissa High Court to the Allahabad High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium had proposed his transfer earlier this month.

Delhi | BJP Leader Accuses AAP of Disrupting Assembly to Evade CAG Report Discussion

NEW DELHI: BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa has accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs of deliberately disrupting assembly proceedings to evade a discussion on Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports that expose alleged financial irregularities during their tenure in power.

Sirsa criticized the AAP MLAs for consistently causing disturbances whenever there is a discussion on CAG reports, leading to their removal from the assembly. However, he made it clear that their actions will not shield them from the scrutiny of the CAG reports.

Pointing out alleged scams highlighted in the reports, Sirsa mentioned that revelations about the Sheesh Mahal and the Delhi Jal Board scam will soon be made public. He also noted that there are twelve more reports yet to be released, which will uncover corruption from the past decade.

Taking a dig at the previous Kejriwal government, Sirsa criticized the construction of an extravagant office at the Chief Minister’s residence, claiming it was more opulent than the Sheesh Mahal. He announced that a report on this matter will also be released soon.

Sirsa further alleged that during their term, the AAP government prioritized political advertisements over public welfare, citing the example of promising Rs 1,000 per month to women but spending millions on advertisements instead. He asserted that Kejriwal cannot evade accountability for long.

Delhi Home Minister Warns of Action Against Those Supporting Infiltrators

NEW DELHI: The BJP government in Delhi is committed to preventing infiltrators from residing in the city and will take action against those who have provided them with overground support, stated Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday.

Addressing the Assembly, Minister Sood emphasized that the resources of Delhi are meant for its lawful residents, not for those who have settled in the city illegally. During the recent election campaign, the BJP accused the AAP of aiding illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants in finding shelter in Delhi.

“We will not tolerate any illegal infiltrators in Delhi,” Minister Sood declared, announcing that the Delhi government will assume control of the detention center in Lampur, where illegal immigrants are held before deportation.

Furthermore, individuals who have facilitated illegal infiltrators by assisting them in obtaining documents such as Aadhaar cards, ration cards, and rented accommodations will face consequences. Minister Sood assured that the government will introduce appropriate measures to address this issue.

Discussing the budget for 2025-26 presented in the Assembly earlier this week, Minister Sood revealed plans to construct a high-security jail complex in Narela. He criticized the previous AAP government for allegedly allocating a significant portion of funds to publicity rather than essential projects.

The BJP government is actively working to implement its budget proposals and aims to transform Delhi into a developed and secure city, Minister Sood concluded.

Delhi CM Accuses AAP of Wasting Funds on Ad Campaigns, Leaving Covid Victims Unaided

NEW DELHI: AAP provided assistance to only 97 families of Covid victims, while spending Rs 17 crore on publicity, according to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. She criticized the previous AAP government for prioritizing advertisements over welfare initiatives during the pandemic.

Gupta, who also serves as the finance minister, defended her government’s one lakh crore budget in the Delhi Assembly. She accused the AAP of misusing public funds on events like a Diwali celebration, publicity, and a sports university that only exists on paper.

The chief minister pledged to eliminate financial wastage to ensure that Delhi’s funds are used efficiently, making the budget goals achievable without relying on the central government.

In response, Leader of Opposition Atishi criticized the budget as a hollow projection due to the lack of an economic survey. She predicted that Delhi’s fiscal deficit would exceed Rs 13,000 crore, accusing the BJP government of inflating revenue estimates.

During a budget discussion, Atishi disputed the government’s claim of a one lakh crore budget, stating that the actual figure is Rs 78,000 crore. She argued that the government would struggle to secure loans under the Small Savings Scheme or receive anticipated funds from the central government.

The Delhi Assembly witnessed intense debates as BJP and AAP legislators clashed over governance and budget priorities. BJP MLA OP Sharma made a pointed remark about previous governments, suggesting that many individuals would emerge from Sheesh Mahal after smoking weed and claim to be the rightful owners of Delhi. This statement sparked reactions from the opposition members.

Delhi Minister Ashish Sood defended the budget, emphasizing that its purpose was not to transform Delhi into a city resembling London or Paris, but rather to uphold the true essence of Delhi as a place inhabited by generous and compassionate individuals.

AAP MLA Gopal Rai criticized the government for presenting a budget without an economic survey, arguing that this lack of data led to unreliable financial projections. Rai also accused the administration of neglecting elected representatives.

Rai highlighted the Speaker’s need to address the chief secretary regarding the city’s officers, as Delhi’s MLAs often find themselves in a position of having to plead for assistance in getting tasks completed.

Gupta accused the AAP of taking control of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) social media account, prompting the BJP government to pursue legal action for its recovery. Gupta expressed frustration, stating that the AAP not only misappropriated funds from Delhi residents but also seized control of the official social media account of the CMO.

The chief minister dismissed the opposition’s criticisms and assured that the BJP-led government would allocate funds towards genuine development projects. She contrasted her government’s approach with that of the AAP, emphasizing that they would not hoard allocated funds without utilizing them, but rather prioritize completing essential tasks to benefit the people of Delhi.

The budget discussion remained tense as the BJP and AAP clashed over financial priorities and governance. Gupta hailed the Rs one lakh crore budget as historic, viewing it as a significant step towards achieving self-reliance for Delhi.
