New Delhi: A 25-year-old man was found dead inside a lift following a fire that broke out at a Vishal Mega Mart outlet in Karol Bagh on Saturday evening, police officials said.
The deceased, identified as Kumar Dhirender Pratap, was discovered during a joint search and rescue operation by the Delhi Police, Fire Department, and disaster response teams. His body was located in an elevator in the fire-affected building.
According to officials, the fire was reported at 6.44 PM from the second floor of the four-storey commercial building on Padam Singh Road, which houses a Vishal Mega Mart store selling groceries and textiles.
“The fire was mainly restricted to the second floor,” Delhi Police said in a statement. A total of 13 fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials added.
