New Delhi: Delhi Police said officers offered Abhijeet Dipke help with flights and telephone calls after his grandmother’s death, but the Cockroach Janta Party founder disputed their account, alleging that requests to use his phone and speak to a lawyer were denied.
DCP Neha Yadav said police conveyed the news as soon as they received it and repeatedly asked whether he wanted to speak to his parents, but he declined.
Delhi Police separately released a video combining Yadav’s statement with footage of Dipke seated in a room with police personnel and a man in a blue shirt. The department presented it with a message saying facts should speak when claims and reality differ.
Dipke says he asked to contact his cousin
Dipke said he had asked to speak to a cousin who lived with his grandmother. He alleged that he sought access to his phone for a couple of minutes to retrieve the cousin’s number, but was not allowed to use it.
He also alleged that a request to speak to a lawyer was denied. His post questioned why police instead asked him at 3:30 in the morning to call his father and say he would be going to jail for a long time the following day.
Dipke said his father had just lost his mother and questioned the purpose of asking him to contact his parents at that hour. He accused police of adding to the family’s distress. These are Dipke’s allegations; Yadav’s statement gave a different account of the assistance and calls offered.
What the officer said about assistance and the protest
Yadav said officers sensitively offered flights, calls and other help, including repeated opportunities to speak to his parents.
She also cited CJP’s alleged past non-compliance with undertakings and local directions. Yadav alleged earlier mobilisation involved stone-pelting, arson, violence and public-property damage.
According to Yadav, permission for a proposed Janpath sit-in was denied over procedural failures, past non-compliance and security conditions. She said Section 133 BNSS had been imposed in several Delhi areas, barring gatherings and protests, and linked the October 10 detention of Dipke and two associates to the unapproved protest call.

Three released after surety bond, police said
In an earlier statement, Delhi Police said Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were preventively arrested under Sections 126/170 BNSS on October 10 and produced before the SEM Court, Delhi Cantt, on October 11. Police said they were released after a ₹50,000 surety bond for maintaining peace and good behaviour for one year was furnished.
