0

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has hailed the inauguration of the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor as a historic milestone in India’s infrastructure journey, calling it a transformative project for connectivity and regional growth.

In a post on X, Sandhu said the ₹11,868 crore mega project reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the execution led by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, bringing world-class infrastructure closer to citizens.

Highlighting its impact on Delhi, the LG said the expressway will significantly reduce travel time to Dehradun from nearly six hours to about two and a half hours, making it a major convenience for commuters.

He added that the corridor offers seamless, signal-free connectivity from key points such as Akshardham, Geeta Colony, and Shastri Park, which will help decongest city roads and boost regional trade, tourism, and economic activity.

Sandhu also emphasized the project’s focus on sustainability, noting that it includes Asia’s largest elevated wildlife corridor to ensure protection of natural habitats, reflecting a balanced approach between development and environmental conservation.

Calling it more than just a highway, the LG said the corridor will act as an “artery of progress,” enhancing ease of living for millions across the National Capital Region and adjoining areas.

Big Breakthrough: Two Notorious Criminals Nabbed with Illegal Arms Near Bhalswa Lake

0

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has foiled a planned robbery near Bhalswa Lake and arrested two desperate and notorious criminals associated with the Narender Group, operating out of Jahangirpuri in North Delhi.

Acting on specific inputs, the NR-1 team apprehended the accused before they could execute their plan, thereby preventing a potential violent crime in the area.

During the operation, police recovered one semi-automatic pistol, one desi katta, and four live cartridges from their possession. Officials confirmed that both accused are habitual offenders and have been previously involved in multiple cases of robbery, dacoity, and violations under the Arms Act across Delhi and the NCR region.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the illegal weapons were sourced from suppliers based in Uttar Pradesh and were intended to be used in gang-related criminal activities.

The operation was carried out by the NR-1 team of Crime Branch, led by Inspector Pukhraj under the leadership of ACP Ashok Sharma and supervised by DCP Pankaj Kumar.

Police officials stated that the timely action not only thwarted a major crime but also reinforced Delhi Police’s zero-tolerance approach towards organized crime and illegal arms networks.

Counterfeit Kingpin Crushed: Delhi Police Smashes Fake Cosmetics Network

0

New Delhi: In a major crackdown on counterfeit goods, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has dismantled a well-organized fake cosmetics manufacturing network operating in the city.

During the operation, police arrested the kingpin along with three associates and seized more than 20,000 counterfeit cosmetic items. The raid also led to the recovery of duplicate Veet products, along with raw materials and machinery used in the illegal manufacturing process.

The accused were running an illegal factory in Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, where fake cosmetic products were being produced and packaged to resemble branded items.

Police officials said the counterfeit products were being supplied to local markets and weekly bazaars, posing a serious risk to public health due to the use of substandard and potentially harmful ingredients.

The operation was carried out by the WR-I team of Crime Branch, led by Inspector Pardeep Kumar under the leadership of ACP Rajkumar and supervised by DCP Harsh Indora.

Officials stated that strict action will continue against such counterfeit networks to protect consumers and curb illegal manufacturing activities.

Crime Branch Strikes Big: Fake Auto Parts Racket Busted in Karol Bagh, Delhi

0

New Delhi: In a major crackdown, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a fake auto parts racket operating in Karol Bagh, one of the capital’s biggest automobile markets.

During the operation, two accused were arrested and counterfeit spare parts worth approximately ₹25–30 lakh were seized. Police also recovered duplicate packaging of TVS Genuine Parts, revealing a well-organised network involved in selling fake products as original.

The raid led to the recovery of large quantities of spurious automobile components, including clutch assemblies, timing chains, brake pads and filters. Around 60 bags filled with fake spare parts were seized from the godown.

Officials also found a complete packaging and branding setup at the location, including barcode printers and bulk fake branding material, used to replicate original company packaging and mislead customers.

The operation was carried out by the ER-II team of Crime Branch led by Inspector Pawan Kumar under ACP Narender Beniwal and supervised by DCP Pankaj Kumar.

Police said such rackets not only cause financial losses to genuine manufacturers but also pose serious safety risks to consumers, as substandard vehicle parts can lead to accidents. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider network.

Delhi Police Invokes PITNDPS Act Against Habitual Female Drug Trafficker, Shifted to Chennai Jail to Break Network

New Delhi: In a decisive crackdown on narcotics networks, Delhi Police has detained a habitual female drug trafficker under the stringent PITNDPS Act, 1988 (Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act), marking a significant step in curbing repeat offenders involved in drug trafficking.

According to officials, the accused is a repeat offender with involvement in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act. Given her continued engagement in drug-related activities, authorities invoked preventive detention provisions to ensure she is kept away from her established network.

In a strategic move aimed at disrupting inter-state drug operations, the accused will be transferred from Tihar Jail in Delhi to Central Prison, Puzhal in Chennai. Officials believe that relocating her outside Delhi will effectively break her communication and operational links with the existing drug supply chain.

The operation was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Crime Branch, led by Inspector Rakesh Duhan and ACP Kuldeep Yadav, under the overall supervision of DCP Rahool Alwal.

Delhi Police stated that this action sends a strong message against drug trafficking networks, particularly targeting repeat offenders who continue illegal activities despite prior arrests.

Officials reiterated their commitment, saying:

“There is no safe haven for drug traffickers. Zero tolerance will be maintained against habitual offenders.”

The move is part of Delhi Police’s broader strategy to dismantle organized narcotics syndicates operating across states and prevent further spread of drug abuse.

Army Brigadier Assaulted in Delhi: Wife Alleges Police Inaction, FIR Registered; Army Seeks Swift Action

0

New Delhi: A shocking incident has emerged from the national capital where a serving Army Brigadier was allegedly assaulted, with his wife accusing the police of inaction and misconduct during the episode.

According to the Brigadier’s wife, Nitasha, the incident took place on April 11 around 9:45 PM when her husband and son had stepped out for a walk. “They returned searching for his mobile and informed that two individuals sitting inside a Mercedes car were consuming alcohol. My husband and son objected, telling them that this is a respectable society and such behaviour is not acceptable,” she stated.

She further alleged that the situation escalated when the individuals began using abusive language and passed objectionable remarks. “We called a PCR vehicle. A policeman arrived and was about to record my statement, but the person in the car made him speak to someone over the phone. After that, the cop refused to take my statement,” she said.

Describing the assault, Nitasha added, “Soon, 7–8 men came out of another vehicle and started attacking my husband and son. I approached the PCR officer for help, but he refused to assist.”

The family later went to the Vasant Vihar police station around 10:45 PM, where they allegedly faced further harassment. “A lady officer misbehaved with us and said we were troubling them at night. The PCR officer had also reported the wrong vehicle number. We were not given medical assistance and could only submit a written complaint at around 2:13 AM,” she claimed.

Responding to the incident, Delhi Police stated that cognisance has been taken and an FIR has been registered. “The accused are being traced. During preliminary enquiry, a lapse was found on the part of the investigating officer, who has been sent to District Lines,” the statement said.

The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 115(2), 126(2), 351(2), 79/191(2), and 190, based on the complaint filed by the officer’s wife.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has also taken serious note of the incident. In an official statement, the Army said a Military Police team has been tasked to assist the officer and that Delhi Police has been approached to ensure a swift and thorough investigation.

The incident has raised serious concerns over public safety and police response, especially in cases involving serving defence personnel in the capital.

Arvind Kejriwal Argues Recusal Plea in Delhi High Court, Raises ‘Reasonable Apprehension of Bias’ Before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma

New Delhi: In a dramatic and rare courtroom moment, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal personally argued his recusal application before the Delhi High Court, placing on record a detailed and point-by-point submission expressing what he termed as a “reasonable apprehension” of bias.

The matter was heard by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who allowed Kejriwal to present his arguments in person.

At the outset, Kejriwal began respectfully, saying, “Can I start, ma’am? Thank you very much for allowing me to appear personally in this recusal application. I have deep respect for the judiciary, for Your Lordship, and also for the Solicitor General.”

The court responded by asking him to focus strictly on the recusal plea.

“I Am Not Here as an Accused”

Kejriwal clarified that he was not appearing as an accused, stating that he had already been “honourably discharged” by the trial court. He attempted to read excerpts from the trial court order, which noted that the prosecution case did not even meet the threshold of suspicion.

However, the bench intervened, directing him to confine arguments to the recusal issue.

Trigger Point: March 9 Order

Kejriwal said his apprehensions began after the High Court’s March 9 order, which, according to him, was passed ex-parte in the absence of all parties except the CBI.

He argued that:

  • The trial court had conducted three months of day-to-day hearings
  • Examined hundreds of pages of evidence
  • Yet, the High Court termed parts of that order “prima facie erroneous” within minutes

“I was shocked… I began to have serious apprehensions whether I would get justice,” he said.

He added that he had written to the Chief Justice seeking transfer of the case to another bench, and after receiving a response, filed the present recusal plea.

Legal Ground: ‘Reasonable Apprehension of Bias’

Citing the Supreme Court judgment in Ranjit Thakur vs Union of India, Kejriwal stressed:

“The test is not whether the judge is actually biased, but whether there is a reasonable apprehension of bias in the mind of the party.”

He repeatedly maintained that his concern was not about the integrity of the court, but about perception.

Key Arguments Raised by Kejriwal

Kejriwal listed 10 major reasons behind his apprehension:

1. Strong Prior Observations by Court

He argued that earlier orders of the High Court contained “strong and almost conclusive findings,” which, in his view, suggested a pre-determined approach.

2. Contradiction with Trial Court Findings

The trial court had concluded:

  • No corruption
  • No kickbacks
  • No proceeds of crime

Whereas, he claimed, earlier High Court observations suggested otherwise.

3. Ex-Parte Order Without Hearing Accused

He emphasized that:

  • The March 9 order was passed without hearing the accused
  • Without full trial court records
  • Based only on the CBI’s submissions

“This violates principles of natural justice,” he argued.

4. Stay on ED Proceedings Without Prayer

Kejriwal alleged that:

  • ED was not even a party in the CBI revision
  • Yet, proceedings related to ED were stayed
  • This was done without a written request

He termed the court “very generous” in granting such relief.

5. Observations on Non-Appearance

He objected to the court’s remark that parties “chose not to appear,” stating:
“I have appeared regularly for four years. Why would I skip hearings?”

6. Speed of Proceedings

He claimed his case was being heard at an unusually fast pace compared to other matters, suggesting differential treatment.

7. Opportunity to File Replies

Kejriwal argued that:

  • Time granted for replies in his case was shorter than in other cases
  • Extensions were given only after intervention by Solicitor General

8. Pattern of Accepting CBI/ED Arguments

He alleged a pattern where:

  • “Every argument of CBI/ED was accepted”
  • “Every prayer was granted” (with limited exceptions)

9. Perception of Institutional Bias

He referred to:

  • Public perception about investigative agencies
  • Supreme Court’s earlier remark calling CBI a “caged parrot”

10. Statements and External Factors

Kejriwal cited:

  • A statement allegedly made by Union Home Minister
  • Social media discussions
  • Participation of the judge in certain public events

He clarified these contributed to a perception in his mind, not allegations.

Court’s Response and Exchanges

Justice Sharma repeatedly emphasized:

  • The hearing was limited to recusal only
  • Arguments should remain focused and structured
  • Court procedure would be followed strictly

At one point, the judge noted:
“Court functions in its own manner. I will conduct it accordingly.”

She also cautioned against deviation from decorum during arguments.

Final Submission

Concluding his arguments, Kejriwal said:

“Individually and collectively, these reasons create a strong apprehension in my mind that I may not receive a fair and impartial hearing.”

He requested the court to consider recusal in the interest of justice.

What Happens Next?

The court recorded submissions and is expected to decide on the recusal plea after considering all arguments.

The case continues to remain a key legal and political development, closely watched across the country.
