Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu Calls for ‘Viksit Dilli 2047’ During Address at JNU

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday shared his vision for a “Viksit Dilli 2047” while addressing students and faculty at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) — his alma mater.

Calling the visit a “deeply personal experience,” Sandhu said returning to JNU brought back memories of a place that helped shape his understanding of governance, identity and India’s future.

Speaking on the theme “Reimagining Delhi,” the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need to transform the national capital into a global model of sustainable and inclusive urban development while preserving its cultural heritage.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for urban transformation, Sandhu said modern cities are engines of economic growth and a developed Delhi would reflect India’s confidence and aspirations before the world.

The Delhi LG outlined five key pillars for building a future-ready capital by 2047: Sustainability, Inclusion, Culture, Innovation, Compassion.

He said Delhi’s growth model must remain people-centric and humane while also embracing modernization and technological advancement.

Sandhu further stated that the goal is to create a capital city that is not only globally competitive but also socially inclusive and culturally rooted.

The interaction at JNU focused on urban governance, development challenges and the evolving role of cities in shaping India’s long-term future vision.
