AAP Alleges Delhi Government Bought ₹4,000 Bicycles for ₹7,000, Stages Protest Outside LG Office

Date:

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party has accused the Delhi government of procuring bicycles meant for girls from economically weaker sections at prices substantially higher than their alleged retail value.

AAP alleged that bicycles available in the market for around ₹4,000 were purchased by the government for approximately ₹7,000 each.

“In Delhi, a bicycle distributed to poor girls, whose market price is ₹4,000, was purchased by the Delhi government for ₹7,000,” AAP claimed in a post on X.

The party accused Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood of involvement in the alleged irregularity. AAP legislators and leaders, led by the party’s Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj, staged a protest outside the Lieutenant Governor’s office.

Bharadwaj displayed bicycles during the protest and repeated the allegation that the government procurement price was ₹6,957 against an alleged retail price of ₹4,200.

The claims have not been independently verified. A response from the Delhi government, the Chief Minister and the Education Minister was sought and is awaited.
