Delhi Govt Schools’ Summer Vacation From May 11 to June 30; Special Remedial Classes for Classes IX, X & XII

New Delhi: The Directorate of Education (DoE), Government of NCT of Delhi, has announced that all government schools in the national capital will observe summer vacation from May 11, 2026 to June 30, 2026.

However, the Education Department has directed schools to conduct special remedial classes for students of Classes IX, X and XII during the initial phase of the summer break to improve academic performance and reinforce key concepts.

According to the circular issued by the School Branch of the Directorate of Education, remedial classes will be conducted from May 11 to May 23, 2026, depending on the availability of teaching staff and school infrastructure.

School Timings for Remedial Classes

The department has fixed separate timings for teachers and students:

  • Teachers: 7:20 AM to 11:00 AM
  • Students: 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM

Each class period will be of one-hour duration.

For Classes IX and X, schools have been instructed to primarily focus on Science and Mathematics, although Heads of Schools (HoS) may include other subjects based on academic requirements and performance analysis.

For Class XII students, subject selection for remedial teaching will be decided by the respective Heads of Schools based on students’ academic needs.

Uniform Mandatory, Attendance Online

The circular states that:

  • Wearing school uniform during remedial classes is mandatory
  • Students’ attendance must be marked online
  • Parents’ consent (NOC) is compulsory for participation
  • Special attention should be given to academically weak students

Heads of Schools have also been directed to prepare remedial class timetables before the commencement of summer vacation and submit them to the concerned District Deputy Director of Education (DDE).

Teachers, Library & Facilities

The Directorate has further instructed teachers to provide individual attention to students to ensure noticeable improvement in learning outcomes.

Schools have also been directed to:

  • Keep library facilities open for self-study and book issuance
  • Ensure availability of clean drinking water and basic amenities
  • Maintain proper sanitation and student welfare arrangements

The circular also mentions that guest or contract teachers may be engaged if regular teachers are unavailable.

Additionally, regular teaching staff assigned remedial duties during summer vacation will be granted earned leave as per CCS Leave Rules, while guest teachers will be paid according to existing norms.

District and zonal DDEs have been instructed to monitor the implementation of remedial classes and conduct daily inspections of at least two schools where such classes are being held during the summer vacation period.
