Delhi Crime Branch Re-Arrests Escaped Undertrial Within 48 Hours After Hospital Breakout

Date:

New Delhi, June 29: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has re-arrested an undertrial prisoner within 48 hours after he allegedly escaped from G.B. Pant Hospital by climbing out through a washroom ventilation shaft following a purportedly planned medical escape.

According to the Crime Branch, the accused had allegedly orchestrated a fake medical emergency to secure his transfer from jail to the hospital before executing the escape.

Police said the undertrial fled from the hospital premises and travelled hundreds of kilometres to Una in Himachal Pradesh, apparently believing he had successfully evaded law enforcement.

However, the Crime Branch launched an intensive manhunt immediately after the escape.

Officials said the accused was tracked through a combination of technical surveillance, human intelligence, and sustained field operations before being apprehended within 48 hours of the escape.

The operation was led by Inspector Mahipal Singh under the guidance of ACP Satendra Mohan and under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam.

In a social media post highlighting the operation, the Crime Branch described the incident as a meticulously planned escape involving a fabricated medical emergency and a daring hospital breakout, but said the fugitive’s plan was foiled through coordinated police action.

Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the undertrial or the offences for which he was originally in judicial custody.

Further investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the escape, including whether any individual assisted the accused in fleeing from the hospital or during his journey to Himachal Pradesh.
