NEW DELHI: The Water Minister of Delhi, Parvesh Sahib Singh, has launched a new initiative as part of the Summer Action Plan. Weekly review meetings are now being conducted with officials from the Delhi Jal Board. The primary goal of these meetings is to ensure a consistent water supply, enhance sewerage systems, and promote transparency in water distribution. The ultimate aim of this initiative is to provide uninterrupted clean water to the residents of Delhi throughout the summer season.
Efforts are being made to curb illegal water connections and reduce losses in the system. A meeting was held on Thursday to assess the progress made in the previous week and to outline a plan for the upcoming week. Officials have been tasked with improving the efficiency of the water supply system, preventing leakages, addressing sewer blockages, and enhancing overall water distribution. Key measures have been introduced to ensure accountability and transparency in water management.

Parvesh stressed the importance of legalizing water connections and making them more accessible to the public. He acknowledged that current water connection rates are exorbitant, leading many to resort to illegal connections. Parvesh announced a review of these rates to encourage more people to connect legally. Additionally, he mentioned the imposition of penalties on those found illegally consuming water after a specified deadline. To monitor water supply and ensure transparency, new tenders are being issued for GPS-enabled tankers, which will be tracked using GPS technology, with detailed documentation of water distribution points.

To bolster water supply during the summer, the frequency of tanker trips will be increased to every 16 days. Officials have been instructed to diligently implement the Summer Plan, focusing on all aspects from water supply to pipeline maintenance.
Officials have been instructed to efficiently execute the summer plan by addressing water-related issues promptly, including fixing pipelines. The primary objective is to swiftly resolve any water-related problems to prevent any inconvenience for the public. Directives are being issued, and ministers are actively inspecting the field to guarantee everything is running smoothly. This initiative is crucial, particularly as we approach the summer season, which typically presents challenges in electricity and water supply. Comprehensive plans have been established for both electricity and water to ensure a seamless season ahead.
