New Delhi, May 31: The death toll in the building collapse at Saidulajab village near Saket Metro Station in South Delhi has risen to six, while seven injured persons continue to undergo treatment in hospitals, Delhi Police said on Sunday.
According to officials, two other injured persons were discharged after receiving first aid. Rescue and recovery operations are still underway at the collapse site with the assistance of multiple agencies, including Delhi Police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and Delhi Fire Service.
The building collapse was reported on Friday evening, triggering an immediate emergency response from local police and disaster management teams. Delhi Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched rescue operations to evacuate people trapped under the debris.
Authorities also established a dedicated green corridor to ensure the swift movement of ambulances and facilitate emergency medical treatment for the injured.
Delhi Police said a case of culpable homicide has been registered at Mehrauli Police Station in connection with the incident. Multiple police teams have been formed and raids are being conducted to trace and apprehend those allegedly responsible for the collapse.
Officials said the investigation is examining all aspects of the incident, including possible structural violations, construction-related activities and negligence that may have contributed to the tragedy.
Rescue teams continue to clear debris and conduct searches to ensure no one remains trapped beneath the rubble. Senior officials are closely monitoring the operation and coordinating efforts among the various agencies involved.
The collapse has once again raised concerns over building safety and enforcement of construction regulations in densely populated parts of the national capital. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible once the investigation is completed.
