Delhi Traffic Police Registers 65 FIRs, Issues Over 8,800 Challans in Weekend Crackdown on Traffic Violations

Date:

New Delhi, May 31: The Delhi Traffic Police conducted intensive special enforcement drives across the national capital over the weekend, targeting dangerous traffic violations such as wrong-side driving, unauthorized tinted glasses and drunken driving.

As part of the special campaign, police registered 65 FIRs against motorists involved in serious instances of wrong-side driving, which officials described as one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents and traffic disruptions.

In addition to the criminal cases, traffic police issued a total of 7,549 challans for wrong-side driving violations during the enforcement drive. Authorities said the action was aimed at improving road safety and ensuring stricter compliance with traffic regulations.

The drive also focused on vehicles using unauthorized tinted glasses in violation of Supreme Court guidelines and traffic rules. During the operation, 785 challans were issued against vehicle owners found using illegal tinted films on their windows.

Special teams simultaneously carried out checks against drunken driving at multiple locations across the city. A total of 471 motorists were prosecuted for driving under the influence of alcohol after being found violating prescribed limits during breath-analyser tests.

Delhi Traffic Police said the enforcement campaign was conducted across various districts and major traffic corridors with the objective of reducing accidents, enhancing road safety and ensuring discipline among road users.

Officials reiterated that wrong-side driving, drunken driving and the use of unauthorized tinted glasses pose serious risks to public safety and would continue to attract strict enforcement action.

The Delhi Traffic Police has urged motorists to follow traffic rules, avoid risky driving behaviour and cooperate with enforcement agencies to help make the city’s roads safer for all commuters.
