Kejriwal Moves Delhi High Court Seeking Recusal of Judge; Hearing on April 13

New Delhi: After failing to get his case transferred from the bench of Justice Swarnkanta Sharma, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has now approached the same bench seeking recusal of the judge from hearing the matter.

During proceedings in the Delhi High Court, Kejriwal filed an application requesting that Justice Swarnkanta Sharma withdraw from the case. The court accepted the application on record and directed that both hard and soft copies be formally registered.

Kejriwal also sought permission to argue the matter in person. The court allowed his request, permitting him to present his case personally instead of relying solely on his legal team.

The court has issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), granting it time to file its response to the recusal plea. The matter has now been listed for further hearing on April 13 at 2:30 PM.

Legal representatives associated with Kejriwal stated that the decision to argue in person is his personal choice and does not reflect any lack of confidence in his legal team, which continues to assist in the case.

During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta raised objections, suggesting that Kejriwal’s approach was strategic. However, Kejriwal’s counsel maintained that the choice of representation rests solely with the individual and cannot be dictated by opposing parties.

The development marks a significant turn in the ongoing legal proceedings, with Kejriwal expected to personally present arguments when the matter comes up for hearing next week.

Siddaramaiah Slams Delimitation Plan, Calls It “Assault on Federalism” Targeting Southern States

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly criticised the proposed delimitation exercise, alleging that it disproportionately benefits BJP-ruled northern states while sidelining southern states like Karnataka.

In a post on X, Siddaramaiah said he “welcomes” Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on delimitation but questioned the timing, calling it “election-driven messaging” aimed at states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu..

He clarified that the issue is not about increasing Lok Sabha seats, but about how the increase is distributed and who benefits the most. According to him, the proposed expansion clearly favours BJP-dominated states.

He pointed out that Uttar Pradesh is expected to increase its seats from 80 to 120 (+40), Maharashtra from 48 to 72 (+24), Bihar from 40 to 60 (+20), Madhya Pradesh from 29 to 43–44 (+14–15), Rajasthan from 25 to 37–38 (+12–13), and Gujarat from 26 to 39 (+13).

In contrast, southern states would see relatively smaller gains — Karnataka from 28 to 42 (+14), Tamil Nadu from 39 to 58–59 (+20), Andhra Pradesh from 25 to 37–38 (+12–13), Telangana from 17 to 25–26 (+8–9), and Kerala from 20 to 30 (+10).
Siddaramaiah highlighted that while five southern states together gain around 63–66 additional seats, seven BJP-ruled states could gain nearly double — around 128–131 seats.

He further noted that even after expanding the Lok Sabha to 816 seats, the southern states’ share would remain around 24%, unchanged despite their better performance in population control and governance.

“Karnataka, a key contributor to national growth, risks being deliberately sidelined,” he said, questioning what the state stands to gain if its relative share remains stagnant while larger states gain numerical dominance.

The Chief Minister warned that the gap in representation would widen significantly, with Uttar Pradesh’s lead over Karnataka increasing from 52 seats to 78, and Maharashtra’s lead rising from 20 to 30 seats.

Calling the move a “blatant assault on federalism,” Siddaramaiah accused the Centre of attempting to concentrate power and weaken the voice of southern states.

He stressed that such a major structural change cannot be implemented without wider consultation and public debate, especially at a time when the country faces economic and global challenges.

Siddaramaiah concluded by asserting that Karnataka and other states committed to federal principles will strongly oppose any attempt to dilute their representation and voice in Parliament.

Minor Neighbour Dispute Turns Fatal in Delhi’s Shakurpur; 50-Year-Old Man Stabbed to Death

New Delhi: A minor dispute between neighbours turned deadly in Northwest Delhi’s Shakurpur area on Saturday night, leaving a 50-year-old man dead and two others seriously injured.

The incident took place in Sanjay Park, Shakurpur, under the jurisdiction of Subhash Place police station. According to police, a PCR call was received around 9:10 pm on April 4, 2026, reporting a violent clash between two neighbouring families.

Police teams rushed to the spot and found that a verbal argument over a trivial issue had escalated into a brutal physical confrontation. During the clash, both sides allegedly used sticks, iron rods and sharp weapons.

The victim, identified as Rajkumar (50), was specifically targeted during the attack. He was stabbed multiple times and critically injured. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Rajkumar, a local grocery shop owner, was reportedly the sole breadwinner of his family. His death has left the family devastated.

Two other individuals also sustained serious injuries in the incident and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Following the incident, crime team and forensic science laboratory (FSL) teams were called to the spot. Police have collected blood samples, weapons and other crucial evidence from the crime scene. CCTV footage from nearby areas is also being examined to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Police have arrested one आरोपी in connection with the case, while two other suspects have been identified and efforts are underway to apprehend them. Some of the accused are also reported to be injured and admitted to hospital; they will be questioned once their condition stabilises.

An FIR has been registered at Subhash Place police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is in progress.

Police officials said that prima facie the incident appears to be the result of old enmity and ongoing tensions between the two families, though all angles are being thoroughly investigated.

The incident highlights how a seemingly minor dispute escalated into a fatal act of violence, claiming the life of a man who was the sole earning member of his household.

₹400 Dispute Turns Deadly in Delhi: 22-Year-Old Murdered, Video Uploaded on Instagram

New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has shaken the national capital, a 22-year-old युवक was brutally murdered in Northeast Delhi’s Dayalpur area over a dispute of just ₹400. The मामला has taken a disturbing turn as the accused allegedly recorded the हत्या and uploaded the video on Instagram to spread fear.

The victim has been identified as Mohammad Kaif, a scrap dealer by profession. The incident occurred on the night of April 4 in the Mustafabad area under Dayalpur police station limits.

According to the victim’s family, three minor accused had been demanding ₹400 from Kaif and had allegedly been threatening him for the past few days. On the day of the incident, he was reportedly called out of his house by one of the accused.

He was then taken to a nearby lane, where he was attacked with knives and stabbed repeatedly. The attackers allegedly filmed the entire act and later circulated the video on social media to assert dominance and create panic in the area.

Kaif’s family and friends claimed that he had no prior enmity with anyone and was known to be friendly and non-confrontational. He had gone out that evening reportedly for work-related reasons when he was lured into the हमला.

The gruesome killing has triggered fear and anger in Mustafabad, with residents questioning the deteriorating law and order situation in the area. Concerns are also being raised over the increasing involvement of minors in serious crimes.

Police have taken custody of the body and initiated an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused involved in the हत्या.

The case has also raised serious concerns about the misuse of social media platforms to glorify violence and spread terror.

Authorities are now facing the challenge of tracking down the accused and ensuring strict action, as a minor monetary dispute has resulted in the tragic loss of a young life.

Stunt Riders Challenge Police on Delhi Roads; Heavy Fines Imposed After Viral Video

0

New Delhi: Reckless stunt riding on the streets of the national capital has once again raised serious concerns about road safety, after a viral video showed two youths performing dangerous stunts right beside a police vehicle.

In the video, the bikers can be seen flouting traffic rules and performing life-threatening stunts on a moving bike. Shockingly, one of the riders stood upright on the seat while the motorcycle was in motion, even as a Delhi Police vehicle was driving alongside them.

The act not only put their own lives at risk but also endangered other commuters on the road. A minor mistake could have resulted in a fatal accident.

As soon as the video surfaced and began trending on social media, Delhi Traffic Police took swift action. Using surveillance systems, officials identified the motorcycle and the individuals involved. Strict penalties were imposed, and hefty challans were issued.

Delhi Police, in an official statement, reiterated that road safety remains a top priority and warned that such reckless behavior in the name of making social media content will not be tolerated. Authorities have made it clear that strict legal action will continue against violators.

The incident has also sparked widespread reactions on social media. Many users questioned how such riders dared to perform stunts even in the presence of a police vehicle, raising concerns about diminishing fear of law enforcement.

Others pointed out that violations happen daily, but strict action is often visible only when videos go viral. Citizens have urged authorities to ensure consistent enforcement of traffic rules, not just reactive measures.

Some users also suggested stricter punishments such as vehicle seizure, license cancellation, or mandatory community service to deter such behavior.

The incident highlights a growing trend where individuals risk lives for social media attention, underlining the urgent need for stronger enforcement and public awareness on road safety.

Burari Residents Shut Shops, Hold Massive Protest Over Broken Roads and Delayed Sewer Work

New Delhi: Anger spilled onto the streets in Burari as residents, traders and local advocates came together for a large protest and shutdown against crumbling roads, prolonged sewer work and worsening civic conditions in the area.

Shops remained shut and residents marched through the locality, raising slogans and demanding answers from elected representatives over what they described as years of neglect. Protesters alleged that road construction and sewer-related works have dragged on for years, leaving several stretches dug up, dusty and dangerous.

Residents said the condition of roads across Burari, including key stretches such as 100-foot road, 60-foot road, Baba Colony Road, Jagatpur Road and several internal lanes, has become unbearable. They claimed potholes, mud, dust and constant traffic snarls have turned daily travel into an ordeal.

According to locals, even a short five-minute journey now takes two to three hours because of congestion and damaged roads. They also expressed concern over the impact on emergency services, saying ambulances, fire services or evacuation vehicles would struggle to move quickly through the area in case of a crisis.

Many residents said the situation becomes even worse during rain, when waterlogging and mud make movement hazardous. During dry weather, thick dust clouds affect commuters, schoolchildren, shopkeepers and senior citizens.

Several people at the protest shared personal accounts of hardship. Some said two-wheelers frequently skid on the damaged roads, while others claimed accidents have become common. Residents also raised concerns about rising vehicle repair costs, school commute delays and worsening air quality due to dust.

Local lawyers who joined the protest said the public frustration has been building for nearly three years and accused both the local MLA and MP of failing to ensure timely completion of road and sewer works. Protesters named Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha and MP Manoj Tiwari, alleging that despite repeated appeals, no lasting solution has been delivered.

What stood out in the protest was the broad-based participation. Residents said the movement was not about political parties but about basic civic survival. Traders downed shutters, locals gathered in large numbers and people from different political backgrounds appeared united over the issue.

A section of residents also said sewer infrastructure itself is necessary, but questioned why the work has continued for such a long period without road restoration. They alleged that tenders keep getting extended while people continue to suffer.

The protest reflected deep resentment over what residents described as the collapse of basic civic management in one of Delhi’s largest Assembly constituencies. Demonstrators warned that if road restoration and infrastructure repairs are not completed soon, public anger is likely to intensify further.

Woman Claiming to Be Police Officer Assaults 78-Year-Old Man in Delhi’s Rohini; Sparks Outrage

New Delhi: A shocking incident from Delhi’s Rohini has triggered public outrage after a woman, allegedly claiming to be a police officer, was seen assaulting a 78-year-old shopkeeper in the middle of the road following a minor parking dispute.

The incident took place in Rohini Sector 7/8 area, where a small argument over car parking escalated into violence. According to eyewitnesses, shopkeepers had requested the woman to remove her vehicle, which was allegedly blocking the road.

Instead of resolving the issue, the woman reportedly created a scene, identified herself as a police officer, and allegedly began threatening those present. She claimed her name to be Sub-Inspector Bharti Tomar and said that members of her family were also in the police force.

During the altercation, she allegedly slapped and physically assaulted the elderly shopkeeper, leaving him injured. The incident has raised serious concerns about misuse of authority and the safety of senior citizens.

Locals gathered at the spot soon after the incident, leading to chaos and protests. A video of the incident shows the woman arguing aggressively even after police arrived, reportedly resisting and creating further drama when asked to accompany them.

Police reached the scene following information and took the woman into custody. Further action is being initiated based on the statement of the injured elderly victim.

The incident has sparked a wider debate — if the woman is indeed a police officer, does it give her the right to break the law? And if not, how can someone misuse the identity of law enforcement to intimidate citizens so openly?

The case has also raised questions about public trust in law enforcement, especially when the name of the police is used as a tool to threaten civilians.

Authorities are now under pressure to ensure strict and transparent action, as the incident is not just about an assault, but about accountability and the credibility of the system meant to protect citizens.
