New Delhi, June 4: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting with Cabinet ministers and senior government officials to review safety measures in the wake of the tragic Malviya Nagar fire incident and directed authorities to take strict action against illegal constructions and violations of fire safety norms across the Capital.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that incidents similar to the Malviya Nagar tragedy must not be allowed to recur and instructed officials to launch a citywide crackdown on unauthorized constructions, illegal commercial operations and establishments violating mandatory fire safety regulations.
Rekha Gupta made it clear that stringent legal action would be taken against building owners, government officials or any other individuals found responsible for unauthorized construction activities. She warned that negligence at any level would not be tolerated.
The Chief Minister directed all concerned departments to identify unsafe structures and ensure strict compliance with building regulations and fire safety standards. She stressed that public safety remains the government’s highest priority and accountability will be fixed wherever violations are detected.
As part of the follow-up action, Rekha Gupta has convened another high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on June 5. Senior officials from Delhi Police, the Revenue Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Jal Board and other concerned departments have been directed to attend.
The meeting is expected to focus on coordinated enforcement measures, identification of high-risk buildings, strengthening fire safety compliance and preventing unauthorized construction activities across Delhi.
The Chief Minister’s intervention comes amid growing concerns over building safety and regulatory enforcement following the deadly Malviya Nagar fire, which has triggered multiple investigations and intensified scrutiny of illegal constructions and fire safety compliance across the city.
