Maharashtra Legislative Council Bye-Election: BJP releases list of candidates

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially announced its list of candidates for the upcoming bye-election to the Maharashtra Legislative Council, which is set to fill five vacant seats. This bye-election holds significant importance for the party as it aims to maintain its influence in the Council.

Notable candidates from the BJP include Sandeep Diwakarrao Joshi, Sanjay Kishanrao Kenekar, and Dadarao Yadavrao Keche. The party’s decision to nominate these prominent leaders is strategic in strengthening its political foothold in Maharashtra.

The Election Commission of India has also unveiled the schedule for the Maharashtra Legislative Council bye-election. These vacancies have emerged due to the election of current members to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. The election process will kick off with the issuance of the notification on March 10, 2025, marking the official commencement of proceedings.

According to the schedule, candidates have until March 17, 2025, to file their nominations. If necessary, polling will be held on March 27, 2025, with the counting of votes taking place on the same day. The results are anticipated to be announced shortly thereafter.

DGP Ramachandra Rao’s Compulsory Leave: A Fallout from Ranya Rao’s Gold Smuggling Case!

BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has officially announced that DGP Ramachandra Rao, the stepfather of gold smuggling accused Kannada actor Ranya Rao, has been placed on compulsory leave. Currently, the IPS officer is serving as the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation.

As per the state government order, Sri. K.V. Sharath Chandra, IPS (KN-1997), Additional Director General of Police, Recruitment, has been appointed as the Chairman & Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, Bengaluru, replacing Dr. K. Ramachandra Rao, IPS, who has been placed on compulsory leave.

Ranya Rao is currently detained at the Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru. She was arrested after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore from her at Kempegowda International Airport upon her return from Dubai on March 3.

Recently, a letter written by Ranya Rao emerged, detailing her alleged mistreatment by a DRI officer. She claimed to have been physically assaulted, deprived of sleep and food, and forced to sign numerous documents under pressure. Rao accused the officer of threatening to involve her father in the case if she did not comply.

Rao also stated that she was wrongly accused by an officer from Delhi to protect another passenger on the flight. She was taken into custody without prior notice while still on the plane.

After her bail application was rejected by the Economic Offences Court, Ranya Rao filed a bail petition in the Sessions Court. Her legal team submitted the petition seeking relief in the ongoing case. The bail hearing in the Sessions Court is scheduled to take place on Monday.

Delhi | Eid Celebration Turns to Tragedy as 2-Year-Old Girl Killed in Car Accident in Paharganj

NEW DELHI: In the bustling neighborhood of Paharganj in Central Delhi, a tragic incident unfolded as a two-year-old girl was fatally struck by a car driven by the teenage son of her neighbor. What should have been a festive Eid celebration turned into a heart-wrenching event for her family, according to an official report released on Monday.

The vehicle involved in the accident belonged to the neighbor, Pankaj Agarwal, and was being operated by his son at the time of the tragic incident. Both individuals have been apprehended by law enforcement authorities.

The devastating occurrence occurred on Sunday in Ram Nagar, Paharganj, and was captured on surveillance footage. The footage depicts the car slowly advancing before coming to a halt. Tragically, the vehicle then lurches forward, ultimately crushing the young girl beneath its left front wheel, as detailed by the officer.

Prompt action by local residents saw the injured girl swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Tragically, medical professionals were unable to save her life, and she was pronounced dead. The police have initiated legal proceedings under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code at Nabi Karim Police Station. The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
