Demolition Drives Target Encroachments Near Railway Lines in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar and Wazirpur

Date:

New Delhi: Authorities launched coordinated demolition drives in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar and Wazirpur areas on Monday, targeting illegal encroachments near railway lines. The operations, conducted under heavy police presence, aim to reclaim government land and ensure the safety of railway infrastructure.

In Ashok Vihar’s Jailorwala Bagh area, a Special Task Force (STF) team, backed by excavators and approximately 250 police officers, began demolishing over 200 structures deemed to be illegally built on government land.

Concurrently, a similar operation commenced in Wazirpur, focusing on removing encroachments adjacent to a railway line.

Authorities deployed two companies of paramilitary forces, alongside Delhi Police personnel, to maintain order and prevent any disruption during the demolition process. This marks the second such drive in Wazirpur this month, highlighting the ongoing efforts to clear railway land of unauthorized constructions.

Following a previous demolition on June 2nd, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the critical need to address encroachments near railway tracks, stating, “If a railway line is encroached and there is an accident, who will be responsible?”

The recent actions echo similar drives carried out in Bhoomiheen Camp and Madrasi Camp in south-east Delhi in recent weeks, indicating a broader initiative to tackle illegal construction and ensure public safety on government-owned land.
