New Delhi: Alert patrolling staff of Shahbad Dairy police station arrested an armed man near Panch Mandir, Open DDA Land, Prahlad Vihar, Sector 25, Rohini, and seized a country-made pistol and a live cartridge, according to a police note issued on Tuesday.
The arrest
Police said patrolling staff received secret information on October 31 about a man carrying an illegal firearm at the spot. The team apprehended the suspect after a brief chase. He gave his name as Lokesh, son of Karan, aged 27, a resident of Multani Camp, Shahbad Dairy. A country-made pistol was recovered from the left side of his trouser waistband and a live cartridge from his right pocket.

FIR No. 705/26 under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered at Shahbad Dairy police station. Police said the accused disclosed involvement in snatching and theft using an illegal firearm, and had been involved in three earlier cases, including under the Arms Act and theft-related offences.
The operation was initiated by HC Neeraj, Constable Prince and Constable Sahil, under the leadership of SHO Inspector Gaurav Singh and ACP/Bawana. Police said the source of the firearm and ammunition is being ascertained, his involvement in other snatching and theft cases is being verified, his possible associates are being investigated, and the firearm has been sent for examination.
