Three Air India Aircraft Damaged After Ground Equipment Hits Planes During Delhi Dust Storm

Date:

New Delhi, June 8: Three Air India aircraft sustained damage at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after strong winds during a sudden dust storm caused ground support equipment to shift and collide with parked planes.

The incident occurred on June 7 at Terminal 2 of the airport, where the three Air India narrow-body aircraft were stationed on the ground.

According to initial information, a sudden spell of strong winds and stormy weather swept across the national capital, causing ground support equipment positioned near the aircraft to move unexpectedly.

The equipment reportedly rolled or shifted due to the force of the winds and struck three parked Air India aircraft, resulting in damage.

Aircraft Damaged While Parked

Sources said all three aircraft were parked at Terminal 2 when the weather disturbance occurred.

The affected planes were not in flight operations at the time of the incident. Airport authorities and airline officials subsequently assessed the damage and initiated inspection procedures.

Weather Disruption at Delhi Airport

Delhi witnessed strong winds and dusty conditions on June 7, with several parts of the city experiencing weather-related disruptions.

The incident highlights the challenges posed by sudden weather events at busy airports, where aircraft and ground equipment remain vulnerable to high wind conditions.

Safety Assessment Underway

Air India and airport authorities are understood to be examining the extent of damage to the aircraft and reviewing operational procedures followed during the weather event.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.

Further details regarding the nature of the damage and any impact on flight operations are awaited.
