Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Reviews Heat Wave Action Plan 2026, Orders Ground-Level Readiness Across City

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday conducted a detailed review of the Heat Wave Action Plan 2026 at the Delhi Secretariat, issuing strict directions to ensure that all preventive measures are visibly implemented on the ground.

Emphasising public safety amid rising temperatures, the Chief Minister directed all departments and officials to prioritise preparedness and ensure that relief measures are not just planned but effectively executed across the city.

Key instructions issued during the review include ensuring adequate bed availability in hospitals to handle heat-related illnesses and launching immediate public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on heatwave precautions. All ambulances have been directed to be fully equipped with heatstroke treatment facilities.

In a major step towards safeguarding children, the government has mandated the implementation of a “Water Bell System” in all schools, ensuring students are reminded to stay hydrated at regular intervals.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to ensure the availability of clean drinking water at all critical public locations, including hospitals, schools, construction sites, Atal Canteens, police stations, post offices, and DTC bus stands. Additionally, the arrangement of ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) at these locations has been made mandatory.

To strengthen water access during peak summer, uninterrupted functioning of water tankers, water coolers, and water ATMs has been directed. The plan also includes provisions for animals and birds, with instructions to ensure adequate shade and water facilities for them.

Rekha Gupta underlined that all preparations must be completed on time, with citizen convenience and safety placed at the highest priority as Delhi braces for an intense summer season.
