Tragic Incident in Nangloi: Eight-Year-Old Boy Killed in House Collapse

Date:

New Delhi: A tragic incident unfolded in Nangloi, outer Delhi, on Monday morning when a portion of a house collapsed, resulting in the death of an eight-year-old boy and injuries to a 45-year-old man, according to police reports.

The collapse occurred when a toilet situated on the terrace of the single-story house fell onto the verandah below, causing the ceiling to cave in. The deceased, identified as Vansh, was the son of a daily wage laborer from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, and was living in the house as a tenant. Fortunately, other occupants of the residence were unharmed.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) responded promptly to the emergency call received at 7:12 AM from Rajendra Park Extension in Nangloi, deploying four fire tenders to the scene. During the rescue operation, firefighters discovered two individuals trapped beneath the debris.

While Sabir, aged 45, sustained minor injuries and received first aid on-site, Vansh was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead, according to a DFS official.

“The building was old, and the presence of a water tank on the terrace had caused the iron rods to rust, leading to the collapse,” stated ADCP (Outer) Manoj Kumar Meena. “We are currently inspecting nearby buildings to assess their structural integrity. An FIR has been registered, and strict action will be taken if any negligence is identified.”

Vansh’s grandmother, Krishna Devi, recounted the harrowing moment, stating that her grandson was sitting on the staircase when the structure above gave way. “Vansh was looking at a mobile phone when the unfortunate incident occurred. His father managed to pull him out, but the landlord called the police, who took the child away without allowing anyone to see him,” she lamented.

Krishna Devi has resided in her home for the past two years, but it was only two months ago that her son and his family visited Delhi for the first time.

“The house was in a deplorable state,” she claimed. “The collapse occurred as a result of the landlord’s negligence.”
