Bangkok Drug Run Busted at IGI Airport: Customs Seize ₹8.77 Crore Ganja, Two Indians Arrested

New Delhi: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, seized 8,771.5 grams of ganja/marijuana worth approximately ₹8.77 crore and arrested two Indian male passengers arriving from Bangkok.

The seizure was made by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) following spot profiling at Terminal-3. The passengers arrived on Thai Airways flight TG-315 from Bangkok on January 14, 2026 (scheduled departure dated January 13, 2026).

Based on suspicion, Customs officials diverted the passengers from the Green Channel for X-ray screening and detailed baggage examination. During the inspection, officers обнаружed nine polythene pouches concealed inside a dark blue trolley bag, containing a green-coloured narcotic substance.

Upon weighing, the seized substance was found to be 8,771.5 grams (net weight). A diagnostic field test conducted on the spot prima facie confirmed the substance as ganja/marijuana.

Officials assessed the international market value of the seized narcotics at approximately ₹8.771 crore.

Following the seizure, Customs authorities concluded that the accused had violated Section 8 of the NDPS Act, 1985, with offences punishable under Sections 20, 23, and 29 of the Act. Both passengers were arrested on January 14, 2026 under Section 43(B) of the NDPS Act.

The narcotic substance along with the packaging materials was formally seized under Section 43(A) of the NDPS Act.

Further investigation is currently underway to identify the source, network, and intended recipients of the contraband.
