Delhi Mayor Reviews Okhla Landfill Cleanup; 23 Acres Cleared, Legacy Waste to be Eliminated Within a Week

New Delhi, June 24: Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Tuesday reviewed the progress of bio-remediation and waste management operations at the Okhla landfill site, expressing satisfaction over the pace of work and reiterating the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s commitment to making the site completely waste-free within the stipulated timeframe.

During his visit, senior officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi briefed the Mayor on the ongoing bio-mining activities and the status of waste processing at the landfill site. MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, Additional Commissioner Dr. Satendra Singh Dursawat, Engineer-in-Chief P.C. Meena, and other senior officials were present during the inspection.

Mayor Pravesh Wahi said the civic body is now close to achieving its goal of eliminating the garbage mountain at the Okhla landfill site. He reviewed the progress of waste disposal operations and expressed satisfaction with the work carried out so far.

According to the Mayor, 23 acres of land at the Okhla landfill site have already been cleared of waste, marking a significant milestone in the cleanup drive.

He further stated that the legacy waste accumulated at the landfill site is expected to be completely disposed of within approximately one week. The Mayor added that fresh waste reaching the landfill site will also be scientifically processed and disposed of by December 2026.

Highlighting the government’s focus on landfill remediation, Pravesh Wahi said Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is personally monitoring the bio-mining operations being carried out at landfill sites across the city.

He praised the efforts of MCD personnel and officials, stating that the corporation’s workforce and machinery are working with dedication to ensure timely completion of the project.

The Mayor reiterated that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi remains committed to eliminating landfill sites, improving environmental conditions and creating a cleaner and healthier Delhi for its residents.
