35-Year-Old Sewadaar Beaten to Death Over ‘Chunniprasad’ Demand at Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple, One Arrested

Date:

New Delhi: A shocking incident of temple violence in Delhi has come to light, where a 35-year-old sewadaar at Kalkaji Temple in southeast Delhi was allegedly beaten to death after a quarrel with devotees over the distribution of ‘chunniprasad’ (sacred headscarf and food offering).

According to police officials, the victim has been identified as Yogendra Singh, a native of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, who had been serving at the temple for the past 14–15 years.

The clash occurred around 9:30 pm on Friday, when a group of visitors demanded ‘chunniprasad’ from Singh. The argument quickly escalated, and the group allegedly assaulted him with fists and sticks.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari confirmed that Singh sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he succumbed during treatment.

Police have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (joint liability) at Kalkaji Police Station.

One of the accused, identified as Atul Pandey (30), a resident of Dakshinpuri, was nabbed on the spot by locals and handed over to the police. Authorities have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the other suspects involved in the assault.
