New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has dismissed rumours surrounding the ‘Pink Card’ system for women’s free bus travel, calling them “completely false and politically motivated propaganda.”
Addressing concerns, she clarified that women can seamlessly use the Pink Card across multiple bus journeys without any issue. “If you tap your card in one bus and need to change buses—even after 5, 10, or 20 minutes—the card will work 100% in the next bus as well,” she assured.
Gupta alleged that certain political elements are deliberately spreading misinformation to create confusion among women commuters. She emphasized that the Pink Card system has been introduced to ensure transparency and eliminate discrepancies in government payments to transport operators.
Highlighting the scale of the scheme, she noted that Delhi’s DTC and cluster buses witness nearly 45 lakh trips daily, of which around 20 lakh trips are made by women. Earlier, she claimed, there was no accurate accounting of these trips, leading to potential financial irregularities.
“The Pink Card ensures that every journey is digitally recorded, so the government pays exactly for the number of trips undertaken—without corruption or misuse,” she said.
The Chief Minister also reassured women that the Pink Card registration process will continue for the next three months, and there is no need to rush or stand in long queues. She reiterated that women can travel any number of times during the day without paying any fare.
Gupta concluded by affirming her government’s commitment to women’s welfare, stating that the scheme will continue to provide safe, free, and transparent public transport for women across Delhi.
