Smog Lockdown-Like Curbs in Delhi: Work From Home Rule, Cash Aid for Daily Wage Workers

Date:

New Delhi: In a major step to combat worsening air quality, the Delhi Government has announced mandatory 50% Work From Home (WFH) for both government and private offices as GRAP-IV restrictions come into force across the national capital.

The announcement was made by Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, who said the decision was taken to reduce vehicular movement and limit public exposure amid hazardous pollution levels. However, essential services and the health sector have been exempted from the Work From Home mandate.

The government has warned that strict penalties will be imposed on offices failing to comply with the new directive.

Relief for Construction Workers

Acknowledging the severe impact of pollution restrictions on daily wage earners, the Delhi Government has also announced financial relief for construction workers affected during GRAP-III restrictions.

During the 16-day GRAP-III period, all construction activity across Delhi was suspended, leaving thousands of labourers without income. To address this, the Labour Department has decided to provide ₹100 as compensation to all registered and verified construction workers, with the amount to be directly credited to their bank accounts.

Officials said the decision was taken under the direction of the Chief Minister to ensure that workers dependent on daily wages are not pushed into distress due to pollution-related shutdowns.

GRAP-IV Now in Effect

With GRAP-IV now active, Delhi continues to witness severe air quality conditions, prompting tighter restrictions across sectors. Authorities have urged citizens to follow advisories, limit outdoor activity, and cooperate with enforcement agencies as emergency measures remain in place.
