Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa Criticizes Dhruv Rathee Over Controversial Sikh History Video; DSGMC Files Formal Complaint

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has publicly condemned YouTuber Dhruv Rathee for his recent video on Sikh history, labeling it as “disrespectful” and an “attempt to distort the legacy of Sikh gurus and martyrs.”

The video, titled “The Sikh Warrior Who Terrified the Mughals,” has faced backlash from various organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Both groups have asserted that Sikh gurus should not be depicted in human form or portrayed in films.

In response to the controversy, the SGPC and SAD have demanded the immediate removal of the video, which features AI-generated images of Guru Gobind Singh and his four sons, known as the Sahibzadas. They have also called for the government to take stringent action regarding the matter.

In a post on X, Sirsa expressed his outrage, stating, “I strongly condemn Dhruv Rathee’s recent video, which is not only factually flawed but also blatantly disrespectful to Sikh history and sentiments.” He further emphasized, “Portraying Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji as a crying child is an affront to the spirit of Sikhism, which embodies fearlessness, resilience, and Chardi Kala.”

DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka emphasized that the video not only misrepresents the facts surrounding the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the legacy of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji, but also includes AI-generated visuals of Sikh Gurus, a practice that is strictly prohibited in Sikhism.

In its complaint, the DSGMC stated, “These unauthorized portrayals represent a serious violation of Sikh religious principles and reflect a blatant disregard for our spiritual values. Presenting half-truths under the guise of historical storytelling misleads the public and offends the sentiments of millions.” The committee emphasized that Rathee’s influential YouTube channel, which boasts over 10 million followers, has the potential to disseminate misinformation on a large scale. They urged law enforcement agencies to address this matter with the utmost urgency.
