New Delhi: The Public Works Department (PWD) has officially commenced work on a project aimed at digitizing the Delhi Assembly, as announced by officials on Friday.
In March of this year, Speaker Vijender Gupta convened a meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to discuss the implementation of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) within the Delhi Assembly.
“All components necessary for the comprehensive digitization of the Delhi Assembly, including an audiovisual system and a networking dashboard, will be installed as part of the NeVA project. This will also involve setting up hardware for high-speed data networking. A tender has been issued for the project’s implementation,” stated a PWD official.
NeVA is designed to serve as a unified digital platform for all legislative functions, encompassing the submission of notices, ministerial responses, legislative business, discussions, committee reports, and access to a digital library. To date, 27 state legislative assemblies across the country have successfully adopted this digital workflow system.
“With the implementation of NeVA, the Delhi Assembly will make a significant leap towards a fully digitized and paperless governance model, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and improving public access to legislative proceedings,” Gupta remarked earlier.
According to officials, the total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 15 crore, with a timeline of 50 days from the date the contract is awarded.
In an effort to gain deeper insights into the subject, Gupta, accompanied by a delegation, visited the Odisha Assembly last month. This visit allowed them to examine various NeVA components, including applications, dashboards, and war rooms, providing a first-hand understanding of how technology can enhance legislative transparency and streamline proceedings.
“The Delhi Assembly is dedicated to taking a proactive role in the ongoing digital transformation. The transition to e-Vidhan will not only improve operational efficiency but also foster environmental sustainability. This initiative promises to enhance the speed and transparency of legislative processes,” Gupta stated during his visit to Odisha.
Furthermore, the Delhi Assembly aims to incorporate aspects of Odisha’s NeVA model as appropriate in the future. To facilitate this, the Assembly plans to invite the state’s technical experts to Delhi to share their valuable insights and expertise.
