FSL Clears Delhi Assembly Video of Tampering, Speaker Vijender Gupta Targets Opposition, Punjab Govt Under Fire

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Thursday presented the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report on the controversial Delhi Assembly video, categorically stating that no tampering or alteration was found in either the audio or video recordings of the House proceedings held on January 8, 2026.

Addressing a press conference, the Speaker said the video was sent to the FSL following a unanimous decision of the Assembly, after objections were raised by the Opposition regarding its authenticity. Both the ruling side and the Opposition had agreed to a forensic examination, and audio as well as video recordings were submitted for detailed scientific analysis.

Quoting the FSL findings, Gupta said the report clearly states that frame-by-frame analysis using professional video forensic systems found no evidence of editing, manipulation, or tampering. The transcript provided by the laboratory fully matched the original Assembly verbatim, establishing the footage as genuine and unaltered.

Gupta alleged that despite agreeing to the forensic test, a parallel probe was hurriedly conducted in Punjab, leading to an interim court order based solely on that report. He asserted that the order was not a final verdict, but only an interim direction, and that it failed to determine guilt or innocence.

Raising serious procedural concerns, the Speaker questioned who ordered the Punjab forensic examination, under whose authority it was conducted, and why the Delhi Assembly was not consulted, despite being the original custodian of the footage. He also flagged the absence of chain-of-custody details, lack of clarity on the device used, source of the video, and parameters applied during the Punjab lab examination.

Gupta further alleged that when the Leader of Opposition Atishi failed to respond politically inside the House, state agencies were used under political pressure to build a narrative outside the Assembly. He claimed that the Opposition leadership walked out of the House instead of answering questions, only to later seek intervention through state-controlled agencies.

Calling the situation “extremely serious,” the Speaker said the interim order effectively imposed nationwide digital censorship, which, he argued, falls outside the jurisdiction of a district court. He described this as a violation of natural justice, especially since no opportunity was given to challenge the forensic report relied upon for the order.

Gupta maintained that the issue involves the dignity and respect of religious references made in the House, and accused political forces of misusing government agencies for political gain. While reiterating respect for the judiciary, he said interim orders cannot be used as political shields to suppress facts.

The Speaker announced that further legal and institutional action would follow, warning against any interference in the constitutional functioning of the Delhi Assembly. He also issued a public appeal to the Leader of Opposition to withdraw her remarks and apologise, stating that the House would consider forgiveness if accountability was shown.

“The FSL report conducted on behalf of the Delhi Assembly has made everything clear. The video and verbatim match completely. The truth has prevailed,” Gupta said, concluding that political misuse of institutions and disrespect to Assembly proceedings will not be tolerated.
