Modi Proposes, Party Endorses: Nitish Nabin Takes Charge as BJP National President Unopposed

Date:

New Delhi: Bihar BJP legislator Nitish Nabin has been elected unopposed as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), senior party leader and national election officer K. Laxman announced on Monday.

Nitish Nabin, who was recently appointed as the BJP’s National Working President, filed his nomination for the post of national president earlier in the day. According to the official announcement, a total of 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in his favour, all of which were found to be valid during scrutiny.

Among those who proposed and supported Nitish Nabin’s candidature were Narendra Modi, BJP National President J. P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and senior party leader Nitin Gadkari, reflecting broad consensus within the party’s top leadership.

As per the election schedule, nominations for the BJP national president’s post were accepted between 2 pm and 4 pm, followed by scrutiny from 4 pm to 5 pm, and a withdrawal window from 5 pm to 6 pm. Since Nitish Nabin was the sole candidate to file nomination papers and no withdrawals were made, he was declared elected unopposed.

“Overall, 37 sets of nomination papers were received in favour of Nitish Nabin. Upon verification, all nomination sets were found to be duly filled and valid. With the withdrawal period concluded, Nitish Nabin’s name alone stands proposed for the post of BJP National President,” K. Laxman said in his official statement, formally declaring the result as part of the party’s organisational election process.
