New Delhi: The recent resignation of several councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stems from the party leadership’s “inaction,” and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has no role in these defections, asserted Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday.
In a significant blow to AAP within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), 15 councillors announced their departure from the party and the establishment of a new political entity, the Indraprastha Vikas Party. They cited stalled development initiatives and increasing internal dissatisfaction as their primary reasons for leaving.

In response, AAP has alleged that the ruling BJP orchestrated these defections, claiming that its councillors were offered Rs 5 crore each as part of a “horse-trading operation.”
"आप" छोड़ अलग पार्टी बनाने वाले पार्षद नेताओं ने स्पष्ट कहा है कि 2022 चुनाव के बाद से ही "आप" नेताओं ने ना निगम प्रशासन चलाने पर ध्यान दिया ना ही उनसे समन्वय बनाने पर, ऐसे में साफ है कि भाजपा का इनसे कोई लेना देना नहीं।

Sachdeva emphasized that the councillors who departed AAP have made it clear that since the 2022 elections, the party’s leadership has failed to prioritize municipal governance or maintain effective communication with its members. “It is evident that the BJP has no involvement in this situation,” he stated.
He further attributed the defections to the collapse of AAP’s decade-long tenure marked by “non-development, corruption, inaction, and scandals” in Delhi. “The reality is that several councillors and MLAs have chosen to leave the party due to these issues,” he added.
Sachdeva criticized AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal for his “stubborn approach,” which he claims has hindered the formation of a Standing Committee in the MCD and stifled dialogue with councillors. “As a result, even after more than half of their term has passed, AAP councillors have been unable to initiate any development projects in their wards.
