New Delhi: In a strategic initiative aimed at accelerating local development projects, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has appointed Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) as chairpersons of 11 District Development Committees across the city.
An official order issued by the General Administration Department on Saturday revealed that the Chief Minister has selected eight MLAs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and three from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to lead these committees.
The newly appointed chairpersons from the BJP include Kulwant Rana for North West Delhi, Ajay Mahawar for North East Delhi, Gajendra Yadav for South Delhi, Pawan Sharma for South West Delhi, Manoj Shokeen for West Delhi, Raj Kumar Bhatia for North Delhi, Shikha Roy for New Delhi, and Jitendra Mahajan for Shahdara.
From the AAP, the appointed MLAs are Sanjeev Jha for Central Delhi, Ravi Kant for East Delhi, and Ram Singh Netaji for South East Delhi.
This initiative is part of the Delhi government’s two-tier structure designed to decentralize decision-making related to development projects at both the state and district levels. The District Development Committees aim to foster a more participatory approach to governance by involving MLAs, municipal councillors, resident welfare associations, district magistrates, and officials from various departments and civic bodies.
By promoting decentralized decision-making in public utility and basic civic amenities, the committees will engage citizens directly, as well as through their elected representatives, in the planning, execution, and monitoring of various schemes, projects, and policies, according to government officials. This approach is expected to enhance accountability and responsiveness in local governance.
