NDMC Removes Over 100 Unauthorized Shops and Stalls in Sarojini Nagar Market

Date:

New Delhi: In a significant enforcement action, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) removed approximately 150 to 200 unauthorized shops and stalls from the footpaths in the Sarojini Nagar market area late Saturday night.

The operation, which commenced around 11 PM, aimed to address encroachments that have been affecting pedestrian access and the overall cleanliness of the urban environment.

Ashok Randhawa, president of the Sarojini Nagar Mini Traders Association, reported that the removal of these structures has raised concerns among local traders. He noted that some authorized shops were inadvertently damaged during the operation. “When we arrived at the market, we discovered that hoardings and parts of several authorized shops had also been broken,” Randhawa stated.

In response, the NDMC emphasized its commitment to maintaining clear and accessible public spaces. The civic body has been conducting regular encroachment drives to ensure that markets, footpaths, and other communal areas remain free from unauthorized structures, thereby enhancing the experience for all visitors and residents.
