New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated a new Ayushman Arogya Mandir at the Tis Hazari court complex, reaffirming her government’s commitment to transforming Delhi into a model for health infrastructure.
During the event, CM Gupta criticized the previous AAP-led government, alleging that its mohalla clinics had turned into “corruption hubs” involving irregularities in test outsourcing and renting of spaces.
“Corruption was committed in the name of outsourcing tests. There was corruption in taking space for the clinics on rent,” Gupta charged.
She claimed that the Centre had allocated ₹2,400 crore to the previous administration to build over 1,100 Ayushman Mandirs, but the funds were underutilized and are at risk of lapsing by March.
“The work that should have been done in five years, we will have to do in a few months,” she said, adding, “We want to ensure that no one loses their life due to lack of proper treatment.”
Highlighting the shortage of hospital beds, Gupta pointed out that Delhi currently has less than one bed per 1,000 people, far below the World Health Organisation’s recommendation of two beds per 1,000. She said the goal is to increase capacity to three beds per 1,000 people.

In a civic appeal, she also urged the legal community to refrain from defacing public spaces:
“Posters are seen pasted around courts. I request you to not deface the walls. Please remove these posters.”
As part of the health infrastructure rollout, 33 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras were inaugurated across Delhi on the same day.
Key Ministers Join Initiative:
- Home & Education Minister Ashish Sood launched a centre in Janakpuri, announcing 11 more coming up in the area.
- PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, inaugurating a Mandir at Babar Road, said: “These Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will become the backbone of Delhi’s primary healthcare system.” He added that the aim is to build 4-5 centres per ward and 15-17 per assembly constituency.
- Law Minister Kapil Mishra opened a centre in Karawal Nagar,
- Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa in Chaukhandi, and
- Social Welfare Minister in JJ Colony, Bawana.
The Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are a part of the Union government’s Ayushman Bharat programme. The rollout in Delhi follows the MoU signed earlier this month between the Delhi government and the Centre to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) — a key BJP election promise now being fulfilled.
