New Delhi: A wave of outrage has swept through the medical community following a brutal assault on a female doctor at Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar (BSA) Hospital in Rohini. The attack, allegedly carried out by family members of a patient whose newborn infant died, has ignited concerns about safety and security for healthcare professionals.
The incident unfolded on June 9th around 2:00 PM as the doctor, from the Obstetrics and Gynecology department, was en route from the OPD to Ward No. 12.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Amit Goel, she was ambushed by a group of four to five women, relatives of Sonia, a patient admitted to Ward No. 11 for delivery.
Police reports indicate the women physically attacked the doctor, pulling her hair, attempting to tear her clothing, and manhandling her within the hospital grounds. The doctor received treatment for her injuries.
The motive behind the assault appears to stem from the agonizing loss of Sonia’s newborn earlier that morning. Overwhelmed by grief and anger, the women allegedly held the doctor responsible for the infant’s death, leading to the violent outburst.
A case has been registered at the North Rohini Police Station under the relevant sections of the BNS. “All five women involved in the incident have been identified and released after being charged under the relevant legal provisions,” stated Officer Goel, adding that the investigation remains active.
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has vehemently condemned the attack, sending a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta demanding immediate justice for the victim. FAIMA’s letter details the severity of the assault, alleging that the doctor was nearly strangled, her clothing torn, and left with visible nail marks, indicating a “violent and targeted attack.”

The association is demanding the suspension and prosecution of those responsible, including anyone involved in an alleged cover-up Furthermore, FAIMA is calling for the immediate deployment of dedicated security teams in all Delhi government hospitals, with a focus on emergency departments and doctor’s residences, to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of healthcare workers.
