SpiceJet Aircraft Hits Akasa Plane at Delhi Airport During Taxiing; No Injuries Reported

Date:

New Delhi: A serious ground incident was reported at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi after a SpiceJet aircraft collided with an Akasa Air plane during taxiing, raising concerns over aviation safety and coordination on the ground.

According to initial information, the Akasa Air aircraft was stationary at the airport and was scheduled to operate flight QP 1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad. The incident occurred when a SpiceJet aircraft, while taxiing, struck the stationary Akasa aircraft, resulting in visible damage to the right winglet.

Visuals from the scene showed that a portion of the SpiceJet aircraft’s wing had struck and partially embedded into the wing structure of the Akasa plane. The impact caused damage to the right winglet and parts of the aircraft structure, while the SpiceJet aircraft also sustained damage, including a twisted winglet.

Officials confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties in the incident. All passengers and crew onboard the Akasa aircraft were safely deboarded, and alternative arrangements were made for their onward journey to Hyderabad.

The incident has been reported to airport authorities, and both aircraft have been grounded for inspection and repairs. Preliminary findings indicate that the collision occurred during ground movement, a phase considered highly sensitive and requiring precise coordination between pilots, ground staff, and air traffic control.

Airlines and airport officials have informed relevant authorities, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the incident and any lapses in protocol.

In a statement, Akasa Air said the safety and security of passengers and crew remain its highest priority, adding that the matter is under detailed investigation.
