New Delhi: In a shocking incident highlighting rising vehicle-related thefts in the national capital, all four wheels of a brand-new car were stolen overnight from Guru Ravidas Marg in Govindpuri, a prominent road connecting Kalkaji and Govindpuri in South Delhi.
The incident took place on the main road, considered a posh and busy locality, where thieves allegedly removed all four wheels of the parked vehicle and left it balanced on bricks. Photographs from the spot show the car completely immobilised, with alloy wheels missing and bricks placed underneath for support.
The car owner, Namandeep, said he had purchased the Nexa vehicle just four days ago. “I parked the car here late at night. When I returned early morning, I was shocked to see that all four wheels were gone,” he said. According to the victim, the car is valued at around ₹8.5 lakh, and the stolen wheels were company-fitted alloy wheels.
The theft reportedly occurred between late night and early morning hours, raising serious concerns about night patrolling and on-road security, especially as police authorities have been asserting heightened vigilance ahead of Republic Day celebrations.
Despite claims of increased patrolling and deployment of police personnel across Delhi, the incident suggests that criminals continue to operate fearlessly, even on main roads and in well-populated areas.
The victim has informed the police, and a case has been registered. Officials said an investigation is underway and nearby CCTV footage is being examined to identify the culprits.
The car currently remains parked on bricks at the spot, while residents and commuters passing through the area expressed concern over the boldness of the theft and the apparent lack of deterrence for criminals.
