Delhi Police Busts Banned Cigarette Smuggling Racket; Four Arrested, ₹1 Crore Worth Stock Seized

New Delhi: The Special Staff of the North-East Delhi Police has arrested four alleged smugglers involved in the illegal supply of banned cigarettes and seized 2,82,640 cigarettes worth approximately ₹1 crore, along with a motorcycle used for distribution.

According to Delhi Police, the team received specific information that members of the racket would arrive in the Mahalakshmi Vihar area to deliver a consignment of banned cigarettes. Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted the suspects and apprehended three accused at the spot with the prohibited cigarettes.

Based on their interrogation, the police conducted a raid at a warehouse in the Budhpur area and arrested the main supplier of the syndicate.

The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 2,82,640 banned cigarettes valued at around ₹1 crore, besides the motorcycle allegedly used for supplying the contraband.

Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the banned cigarettes and ascertain the network’s wider links, Delhi Police said.
