New Delhi: Panic gripped commuters on Delhi’s busy Moti Bagh flyover on Thursday evening after a CAT Ambulance attached to Safdarjung Hospital caught fire, triggering an explosion of an oxygen cylinder kept inside the vehicle.
According to officials, the ambulance was returning after dropping a patient at Samalkha when the incident occurred around 7:20 PM.
Preliminary information suggests that the fire broke out due to a suspected short circuit inside the ambulance. During the blaze, an oxygen cylinder inside the vehicle exploded, intensifying the fire and causing alarm in the area.
The impact of the blast also set a nearby motorcycle on fire, which was completely burnt in the incident.
Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within a short time.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
Following the firefighting operation, the damaged vehicles were cleared and traffic movement on the flyover was restored for commuters.
Further investigation into the exact cause of the fire is underway.
