Naresh Balyan’s Bail Application Dismissed in MCOCA Case, Remains in Custody

Date:

New Delhi: A Delhi court has denied bail to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan in a case filed under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Special Judge Dig Vijay Singh dismissed Balyan’s bail application on Tuesday, citing insufficient grounds for granting relief. This marks the second time Balyan has sought bail in this particular case.

During the proceedings, Balyan appeared before the court via video conferencing from jail. The Delhi Police submitted a chargesheet against him on May 1, detailing his involvement in the case.

The supplementary chargesheet also implicated three other individuals—Sahil alias Poli, Vijay alias Kalu, and Jyoti Prakash alias Baba—under severe sections of the MCOCA. All accused are linked to an organized crime syndicate allegedly operated by gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu.

Balyan was arrested on December 4 of last year, although he had previously been granted bail in a separate extortion case. However, on January 15, the court denied him bail in this ongoing matter.

The Delhi Police argued that the investigation is currently at a critical juncture, asserting that granting bail could jeopardize the integrity of the probe.
