IMEI Tracking Leads to Big Bust: Delhi Police Seize 83 Stolen Devices

Date:

New Delhi: The Eastern Range-I of the Crime Branch, Delhi Police, has dismantled an inter-state racket involved in the purchase and resale of stolen mobile phones, arresting two suspects and seizing 83 stolen devices during a targeted raid in Yamuna Vihar.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs developed by a team led by Inspector Ashish Sharma, the police conducted a raid on March 27 at a rented premises near Momin Chowk. The operation was executed with precision despite the sensitive location and the potential for public disturbance.

During the search, officials recovered a sealed carton containing 83 stolen mobile phones from various premium brands, including iPhones, Samsung, OnePlus, Vivo, and Oppo. The suspects were apprehended on the spot while packing the consignment, which was allegedly intended for shipment to Bangladesh via West Bengal.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused sourced stolen mobile phones from a supplier and transported them through courier networks to receivers outside Delhi. Verification of IMEI numbers through the CEIR portal confirmed that several devices were linked to theft cases registered across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

The arrested individuals, identified as Saavej (34) from Ghaziabad and Fardeen (25) from Delhi, have been charged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Police sources indicated that one of the accused has a prior criminal record involving multiple cases, including robbery and possession of stolen property.

Authorities have initiated further investigations to trace the larger network, including suppliers and receivers in other states, as well as additional hideouts. Efforts are also underway to recover more stolen devices that have already entered the grey market.

Several FIRs across Delhi and neighboring regions have been linked to the seized phones. Officials stated that the timely operation prevented stolen devices worth several lakhs from entering illegal markets.

The Delhi Police reiterated its commitment to combat organized mobile theft and illegal resale networks through intelligence-driven operations and stringent enforcement measures.
