New Delhi, June 5: Two firefighters sustained burn injuries while battling a major fire that broke out at the Tata Communications office building in Greater Kailash-I during the early hours of Friday, prompting a massive firefighting operation by Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
According to officials, Delhi Fire Services received a distress call at 2:47 AM regarding a fire in a five-storey commercial building located opposite Savitri Cinema near Nehru Place. Firefighters rushed to the spot and found that the blaze had erupted at the Tata Communications office.
Preliminary information indicates that the fire originated in the battery room located on the third floor of the building. Due to the presence of electrical equipment and batteries, the fire posed significant challenges for firefighting teams.
During the operation, two firefighters suffered burn injuries while attempting to control the flames. They were immediately provided medical attention. Officials have not yet disclosed the extent of their injuries.
A large-scale firefighting effort continued for several hours before the blaze was finally brought under control at approximately 7:05 AM.
Delhi Fire Services confirmed that the fire was confined to the battery room area and that prompt action by firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to other parts of the building, averting a potentially larger disaster.
No civilian casualties have been reported so far. Authorities are assessing the extent of damage caused to equipment and infrastructure inside the office premises.
Fire officials are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. Initial indications suggest that the fire may have been linked to equipment or systems within the battery room, though the precise cause will be established only after a technical inspection.
The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of fire safety measures in commercial buildings across Delhi following recent fire-related emergencies in the national capital.
Delhi Fire Services has reiterated the importance of maintaining fire safety systems, electrical infrastructure, and emergency preparedness protocols in high-occupancy commercial establishments to prevent such incidents.
