Delhi Government Implements Heat Safety Measures for Commuters at ISBTs

New Delhi: In a proactive effort to safeguard commuters from the intense summer heat, the Delhi government is distributing Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets and raising awareness about heat-related illnesses at key Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs) including Kashmere Gate, Sarai Kale Khan, and Anand Vihar.

An official from the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) announced that a tender has been issued for the procurement of informational pamphlets aimed at educating the public about the risks associated with heat-related illnesses. Additionally, the DTIDC plans to acquire 5,000 ORS sachets to be made available for passengers, bus conductors, and other staff members who may experience heat-related health issues.

“These initiatives are integral to the Delhi Heat Action Plan-2025,” the official stated. “We are also working on establishing drinking water facilities and shaded areas for passengers at the three ISBTs, which experience significant foot traffic daily.”

The official emphasized the urgency of these measures, stating that the goal is to ensure that all preparations are in place before the onset of the heatwave, thereby enhancing the comfort and safety of travelers.

“Various strategies are being developed, including the distribution of pamphlets that provide essential information about heat-related illnesses and the implementation of precautionary posters throughout the terminals,” he added.

During a recent meeting, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted the importance of deploying ‘Jal Doots’—trained personnel responsible for distributing purified drinking water at bus queue shelters across the city.

The Kashmere Gate ISBT serves over 1,600 buses, including inter-state, DTC, and Cluster buses, as well as nearly 100 All India Tourist Permit buses. In comparison, the Anand Vihar ISBT accommodates around 870 buses, while the Sarai Kale Khan ISBT handles approximately 240 buses.

These comprehensive measures reflect the Delhi government’s commitment to ensuring
