After Days of Tension, Roads Reopen Near Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque at Turkman Gate

Date:

New Delhi: Normalcy is gradually returning to the Turkman Gate area after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) cleared encroachments around the Faiz‑e‑Ilahi Mosque earlier this week. Delhi Police have now begun easing traffic restrictions and allowing commercial activity to resume in the locality.

On Saturday morning, police opened the stretch connecting Barakhamba Road via the Ranjit Singh Flyover, which had remained restricted following the encroachment removal drive. The road serves as a key artery, linking traffic towards Daryaganj on one side and ITO on the other, and has now been fully opened for public use.

Visuals from the spot showed vehicles moving smoothly, indicating that traffic flow has largely normalised. Senior Delhi Police officials visited the area and issued clear instructions to ensure uninterrupted movement of vehicles while maintaining law and order.

In a further step towards restoring routine life, police have also permitted local shopkeepers to reopen their establishments. Authorities said this decision was taken to help residents and traders return to normal activity after several days of disruption.

Officials confirmed that while the main road has been reopened, certain inner lanes leading into Turkman Gate remain closed as a precautionary measure. Police deployment continues in sensitive pockets to prevent any untoward incident.

“The focus is on restoring normal life while ensuring safety. Traffic has been reopened and shopkeepers have been allowed to resume business,” a senior officer said.

With traffic moving and commercial activity resuming, authorities say the situation in the Turkman Gate area is now largely stable, though monitoring will continue in the coming days.
