New Delhi, June 4: A 49-year-old college professor was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside her locked apartment in East Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave, prompting Delhi Police to launch a murder investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Debusmita Paul, an Assistant Professor at Shivaji College, who lived alone in a flat at Satyam Apartments in Vasundhara Enclave.
The case came to light on Thursday afternoon when police received a PCR call around 2:35 pm from the victim’s sister, Debarati Paul, informing them that Debusmita had been found dead inside her residence.
Sister Breaks Open Locked Flat
According to police, Debarati had been trying to contact her sister repeatedly throughout the day but received no response. Growing concerned, she went to the apartment and discovered that the flat was locked from the outside.
Suspecting something was wrong, she, along with others, broke open the lock and entered the flat, where Debusmita was found lying dead.
Injury Marks Raise Murder Suspicion
Initial examination reportedly revealed injury marks on the victim’s body, leading investigators to suspect foul play.
Police sources said the circumstances surrounding the death appear highly suspicious and the possibility of murder is being actively investigated.
However, investigators face a significant challenge as there were no immediate signs of forced entry into the apartment, raising questions about how the perpetrator may have gained access to the flat.
CCTV Footage Being Examined
Delhi Police have collected CCTV footage from Satyam Apartments and surrounding areas as part of the investigation.
Officers are analysing footage from multiple cameras to determine who entered or exited the building around the time of the incident and to establish a timeline of events.
Investigators are also working to identify potential visitors, acquaintances or other individuals who may have been in contact with the professor before her death.
Mystery Deepens
While injury marks have strengthened suspicions of murder, police have not yet officially confirmed the exact cause of death.
Forensic teams are examining the scene, and post-mortem findings are expected to play a crucial role in determining whether the injuries directly caused the death or if other factors were involved.
More than 12 hours after the incident was reported, investigators were still working to establish both the motive and the circumstances surrounding the professor’s death.
The shocking incident has sent ripples through the academic community, with colleagues and students awaiting answers as Delhi Police intensifies its investigation into the mysterious death.
