Delhi Police Register FIR Over Leak of Former Army Chief Naravane’s Unpublished Book

Date:

New Delhi: In a significant development, the Delhi Police has registered an FIR in connection with the alleged leak of an unpublished book authored by former Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane.

According to officials, the case has been registered by the Delhi Police Special Cell to investigate how the unpublished manuscript entered the public domain before its official release. The book, titled Four Stars, had not received formal publication clearance at the time the alleged leak surfaced.

The issue had earlier drawn attention after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi repeatedly referred to the contents of the unpublished book during parliamentary proceedings, leading to objections over citing material that was not officially published or independently verified.

Police sources said preliminary findings indicate that a pre-print PDF version of the manuscript, reportedly prepared by Penguin Random House, was shared on certain websites. The investigation will examine whether the file was further circulated by an online marketing entity and subsequently disseminated through platforms such as WhatsApp and other social media channels.

The Special Cell is now probing the source of the leak, the manner in which the digital copy was accessed, and whether any breach of confidentiality or copyright norms occurred. Officials clarified that the investigation will focus on identifying responsibility for the unauthorised circulation of the unpublished material.

Further details are expected as the probe progresses.
